Since I originally asked the question, I have found a clutch of eggs in my flower bed outside the coop, and inside my fenced in garden. Apparently one of my Americaunas started laying early and has been flying out of the chicken yard to lay her eggs. Thanks to those of you that puzzled over this...
Yes we have a game cam, but I can only view from my husband's computer which will return in a month! They are eggs from my Pullets, at this point I just want to khow they got there!
I'm sure they are chicken eggs. I will keep a count and see if more eggs appear. Maybe they are sneaking out! This is my third year of chickens, till now they've always laid eggs in or near the nesting box.
The eggs were outside of my acre of chicken yard. The fence is a four foot high with 2" x4" holes. It only keeps my chickens contained during the day, they are closed up in my coop at night.
Does anyone know what would steal my chickens' eggs and store them in a clutch in a patch of weeds? I was pulling some big weeds right outside the fence of my chicken run. As I did, several eggs rolled out. On closer inspection, I found 8 eggs sitting there.
Is she egg bound? I dont think it will hurt to give a warm water and Epsom bath for 30 minutes. You can always put vaseline on the vent after to help. It will fix problem if she's egg bound, wont hurt if she's not.
I am a newbie, since March, but I've already discovered a few things. Straw is smelly for the coop floor. I personally love sand under tbe roosts and pine shavings everywhere else. You can scoop out the poop often without too much buildup in the compost pile. I like freshly mowed grass in the...
What do people do? I have 2 groups of chickens, 14 six month olds and 8 4 month old. The older ones have a coop that is ventilated and an oscillating fan. They come in during the heat of the day and all stand around the fan. They are fine . The younger ones are in their own run with less...
I have two chicken tractors and one coop. The first tractor my husband built has the mesh bottom. It is terrible for cleaning. I keep my young chicks in there to keep them from getting pecked, but they have started laying! So this weekend we are building a run for my big chickens and we will put...
Thanks, I am new to this, but my 13 hens are laying 7-13 eggs a day. My babies, born in May, all of a sudden started laying, too! I wasn't expecting that! Anyway, it's all fun. (Okay cleaning the coop isn't,but it's fun when it's clean! )
Thank you, I have been reading your remarks in the other post, too. (I didn't see that one till after I posted my question) . You may have persuaded me to change to sand! Thanks for your comments!
I started my first flock in March of 2013. We have a nice concrete floor in my coop. I started with straw on the floor, way too smelly, then went to pine shavings, much better. I am considering sand because I clean my coop often, and I am worried about the huge amount of shaving I am putting in...
I just switched from straw to pine shavings, much better. I am considerswitching to sand because of the huge amount of shavings that goes into my compost pile.
