I sure hope they change. It just threw me since I know the parents and yet I got yellow legs. My roo I had at 3 weeks, his legs were already pinkish white but my pullets I got at 5 months so IDK what they looked like as chicks. Thanks for the response.
I own a SS roo and 3 SS hens. I have hatched out 4 SS chicks and all have yellow legs and combs? Will they lighten as they mature? Or should they have been pinkish upon hatch? All my adults have pinkish/white/skin colored legs.
I have other hens but my other hens are CS (which make...
As before I have a Speckled Sussex rooster. I also have a Dominique hen and a barred EE hen (marked just like the Dominique but lays green eggs and has a cushion comb). They give me black chicks and black chicks with yellow head dots. Those are also sex links correct? Yellow dot roos, no dots...
Yep, I am sure they are from the CS girls. I set another batch after this and made 100% certain that other eggs ended up in there and I ended up with 3 yellow and 6 red chicks this time.
Yay! Glad to know what I am getting now, I think. I hope it doesn't mean I am going to get stuck with a...
okay, I believe I have created sexlinks? My roo is a Speckled Sussex and I own 3 Coronation Sussex. Last hatch I got one odd colored chick I didn't expect (didn't realize my CS were laying yet, all other chicks were chipmunked as they were SS or SS/CLB) and just thought I accidentally set a RSL...
This might be a really stupid question but for some reason, quite a while back, I thought I read where hatching eggs from small hens bred to large roosters can cause egg laying issues in the next generation? Now I can't find it anywhere.
My cockerel is a Speckled Sussex (maybe about 7-7.5...
Hmm, my three CS pullets that I recently purchased have a hatch date of the week of Easter 2014. That makes them 8 months old. Are they not laying yet because they matured so close to the time change? The man said they weren't laying yet when I picked them up. All are nice and red in the face. I...
Thank you all. I sure feel lucky to have them. They have settled in very nicely and are already more comfortable with me. I will have to try to get some good pics of them if the weather cooperates.
I just purchased my first Coronation Sussex pullets on Friday. I LOVE them! These girls hatched the week of Easter, so hopefully they will start laying soon. These aren't the best pictures as they were taken with my cell but I didn't want to be chasing them around with a camera right after they...
I'm leaning towards cockerel. I have three sussex pullets that hatched March/April and they have tiny combs and waddles. This is one of them at 6 months.
I don't actually own the CS yet. and I don't really have the grow out apace to see if the colors show true to gender. Or it is automatic if red/buff female yellow/silver male.
hmm, I wish you were 100% certain LOL I can only have so many chickens and I hate to get them and they don't work. Well I shouldn't say I would hate it, I love my chickens regardless, but hubby likes the idea of having sex links to sell to help cover the feed bill. We intend to hold back the...
yes, I did, the CS is not listed on the chart. However, what I was reading about the CS is that is "like" the light Sussex, just grey in color instead of black. But I cannot find anything to show if they will still create a sex-link.
