I just went out to check on my hens, it's 11:00.
Found my favorite girl just hanging out in the doorway to the coop (inside the run).
Picked her up and onto the perch. She just jumped down and went back out.
She has been sleeping in the nesting box lately, so then I tried to put her in there...
Hey everyone-
I know there have been a million posts about dog runs, but I just need to run this idea by chicken people.
We are moving to a new house, giving up our BELOVED coop that is built like Fort Knox, completely predator proof.
Of course I built is before I had chickens, so they have...
Not an emergency, but my Astrolorp has no feathers on her head. She lost them months ago, almost a year.
At first I thought it was molting, but they have never come back.
Anyone know what this might be??
After reading some of threads here, I am not sure my situation qualifies. Good thoughts to everyone here dealing with the heavy stuff.
Any help I can get with our tiny emergency, would be very welcome.
Our baby chicks were delivered to the wrong address, three hundred miles from where they are...

Our baby chicks were delivered to the wrong address, three hundred miles from where they are supposed to be.

I don't want to start a huge free range debate.
I have a small urban farm. I've built a chicken coop and run that could act as a bomb shelter, it is so secure.
I take predators very, very, seriously. I do not want to find my lovely flock shredded by a raccoon, or a neighborhood dog.
Our entire...
I have been taking my vegetable garden overflow and putting it into the food processor every morning and creating sort of a raw vegetable mash. They LOVE it !
Anything I should be concerned with ? I only use veggies from the treat list.
Hi everyone-
So I live in southern california, pretty close to one of the wildfire's that are burning.
It is so smoky outside, I am worried about the chickens. There is a lot of ash as well.
I am thinking of taking them out of the run and putting them into the coop, but in the run I can mist...
My hens JUST started laying. I just found a runaway egg in the run and I am not sure how long it has been there. Probably a couple of days. Is it good to eat or not ?
Why won't the hens use the beautiful nests I built them???
We are only on egg 5 from my eight chickens, so I am hoping they are just new to this, and haven't figured out what those cozy little boxes are for.
I bought some old glass eggs on ebay for teaching chickens what to do, so far they are...
