Mine are definitely pets with benefits. I know in my head they are livestock but couldnt actually eat one of mine. Although I have given
roos to someone knowing they were going to be eaten.
No Your not crazy or weird. You understand the need for them to be used as food but you became attached to them. I understand completely. I think they just weedle their way into our hearts . they are so beautiful and entertaining.
I personally started with Pullets and Im so happy I did. I was able to get 15 week old pullets so found I was able to bond with them very well. They gave me the appreciation of chickens without the difficulty of having chicks to raise.

This book has been a godsend. It has been very helpful in all areas for me. I keep it handy and even after 5 years of having my flock still sometimes go and check information in it.
Obviously they have big back yards in South Carolina. Im in Australia in a small city plot so not much room. Although my parents own 100 acres. They have emus,Kangaroos, Wallabys, Echidnas and lizards does that count. Lol.
I did look it up and had a little laugh. You are right. I would love for them to multiply but my husband is in a wheelchair and it took two months to convince him that 3 was fair in our little back yard. I am looking at making a bigger coop though Lol.
