Do you consider your Chickens Pets or Livestock

Mine are definitely pets with benefits. I know in my head they are livestock but couldnt actually eat one of mine. Although I have given roos to someone knowing they were going to be eaten.

Why do I beat myself up about butchering a few cockerels.

No Your not crazy or weird. You understand the need for them to be used as food but you became attached to them. I understand completely. I think they just weedle their way into our hearts . they are so beautiful and entertaining.

Chicks, pullets, or hens? What's the best for a first timer

I personally started with Pullets and Im so happy I did. I was able to get 15 week old pullets so found I was able to bond with them very well. They gave me the appreciation of chickens without the difficulty of having chicks to raise. I have since gotten adult hens and found them to already...

This book has been a godsend. It has been very helpful in all areas for me. I keep it handy and even after 5 years of having my flock still sometimes go and check information in it.

    My babies are beautiful

I did look it up and had a little laugh. You are right. I would love for them to multiply but my husband is in a wheelchair and it took two months to convince him that 3 was fair in our little back yard. I am looking at making a bigger coop though Lol.

    My babies are beautiful

They really are beautiful. I am amazed at how much personality they have. My husband is in a wheelchair so things can be hard. I couldnt have any other animals and the chickens are just great. They certainly bring a bit of sunshine to my day
