I was thinking of doing that too but I'm not sure how well it will work... The "duck pond" is just a childrens play clam shell in the ground. It's not deep but has slopped edges which is why Sophie couldnt get herself back out, especially with her wet silkie feathers.
I'm happy to announce she...
Thanks everyone, she seems to be doing better already! I've put them in a small coop that I usually use to quarenteen new birds while she recovers. I think I'll keep her in there for a few days until she recovers fully. Shes up and walking around now but still clearly very tired. Gave her what...
Please help! Today was only the second day my muscovys and chickens have had the yard together. Usually the ducks have half and the chickens have the other but after over a month of this, I decided it was time to take the temp dividing fence down. There hasn't been any fighting or aggression...
From what I've seen of my hen and drake, the size of the crest doesn't count towards anything. My drake is very noticeably bigger than my hen but there isn't really a different in their crest. I've only aeen them raise their crests once though - they were getting cranky at the dogs when they...
I'm not sure what exactly to tell you but I do have one peice of advice - don't just chuck them all together and expect them to get along! My parents made the mistake of this many, many years ago when introducing new ducks to their already established flock of chickens and roosters. The roosters...
Hmmm... Maybe some lettuce? They can have iceberg lettuce but I find the water content can be too high for them which can make them have a runny tummy. Mine like green oak lettuce, spinach and asian lettuces such as wom bok and bok choy. My babies also love diving for peas in their clamshell...
Hi duckncover! First things first, be slowwwww. I only got my month old muscovies just over a week ago. Thry hadn't had much human interaction as they were bred to be eaten but they're now my pets. I started out with slowly putting lettuce near them and they've graduadlly realised I won't hurt...
Here are some new photos. :) I'm already seeing some differences. I think the one with the white feet and more white on the body is a drake. He has thicker legs than the other, longer body, bigger feet, less adult feathers and has a bigger chest while the other is small and looks a lot more...
Sorry, I know these aren't the best photos but the poor things are terrified of people. Turns out the man who bred them mainly breeds them for meat so they aren't used to humans being so close to them. They are improving very quickly though! I'm in love with them already. :D
Okay! I have my babies now. :) absolutely adorable. I asked for two females and the man said he can't guarantee their sex but it was his best guess that these are girls. He also didn't tell me how old they are but I think they're just over one month. They've still got a lot of their fluffy...
Honestly, the place of getting them from has a bunch of different ducklings all in one coop so some are related and others aren't. The old man who owns them isn't good at keeping trrack of those kind of things, perhaps I am better off with two girls. Don't want to inbreed them!:/
Hi everyone! I'm new here and would just like to say, I love reading all this information! Such a great site! :D
Anyway, I have been waiting three weeks and today I am finally getting two muscovy ducklings. I've had ducks before but not muscovies. I'm stuck on deciding one thing though - two...
