I just found this flexible shelled, not fully formed yolk in the nest boxes. Is this someone's first ever egg or am I developing a calcium problem? I have 3 from 6 that have just started laying 3 weeks ago, hoping that today's egg is a practise one
3/3 but Master Two dropped one on the way into the house
So we gave them a treat today - we opened the door on the bottom of the compost bin & let them scratch out some juicy protein.... Bugs, worms, witchety grubs...... Will try to attach the photo
Ridgerunner
Should I be concerned that my 3 x 19wk old hens are squatting for my husband????
They are backing up to his feet, squatting & "spreading the weight" of his hand stroking their backs, then they point their tails straight up & 3secs later they're doing the feather shake thing you...
Wow!!! Thanks for the quick answer.... Always learning something new. My girls were 18wks last Friday when they produced their first two eggs. They've given me 11eggs in their first 8 days of production but half of them are quite small.... I wonder should I expect some false starts with the new...
My 18wk old ISA Browns laid their first ever egg 6 days ago..... & given me 8 eggs in 6 days. Although yesterday someone popped out this little practice egg..... So cute!! Can you really tell from shell colour, what eggs are coming from what chook breed??
I got my first ever eggs (2) yesterday on my chooks 18wk anniversary!!!! Hooray!!!!
Today there is a third egg so I'm sitting on my hands trying not to keep going back to check.
6 chickens in 35deg celcius heat in Brisbane, Australia!!
AND I just found an iPhone app called Egg Tracker that...
Yep I reckon too. I've got three ISA Browns that are 18wks, and slightly younger by 2-4 weeks are the Barnesvelde, the Light Sussex & a Black Bitsa!
Can't wait to check the nesting boxes tomorrow!!
I ceremoniously gifted the first two eggs to a neighbour down the street who has been donating...
So this morning I posted a photo of my 18wk old chooks & commented that at any point in the future now, I might see their first egg....... We'll knock me down with a chook feather...... Today on their 18wk anniversary, they surprised me with TWO eggs!!!!! So proud of my gals right now
Brand new boxes built today by hubby with wood shavings in them. They'd only been in the coop for 2hrs but at nightfall, my clever chooks had put themselves to bed for their first night with boxes.
Can anyone advise how old pullets must be before they can start composting?
I have 9 week old pullets & an enclosed compost bin - I want to empty the compost bin into the the chook enclosure & let the chooks do the work but am confused about age milestones for my chooks.
All advice welcome...
