I know that hay mainly will grow moldy or get other fungi in it when its in a high humidity climate... I would personally reccomend using pine shavings.. this is what I use in my coop and my hens LOVE scratching around in it, also it stays dryer and doesnt seem to get moldy or anything like that...
to me it sounds like a deformity in your chicken... I would give it a little time, help her by putting food by her and keep water near by.. sometimes chicks have leg problems that resovle themselves... however if the problem worsens or continues without any improvement, I would recommend the...
yah you could get the bedding wet... and normally what I do is use a snow shovel to scrape up my bedding stuff! Yah I use soap in my coop and it works great!! :) Glad it helped!
she looks like a buff orpington to me, I have 2 of them and one has darker feathers the other lighter, i think its just slight color variations in feather color. either that.. which i think is right, or she could be a golden sex link! they look similar!
to be quite honest. water, soap and alot of elbow grease will do a perfectly fine job... get one of those multiple choice squirter things, make sure it has "jet" as an option. that should do a really good job, especially if your chickens were healthy. My dog walks around the chicken area all the...
1. she may be lonely, or because of the sudden change in her environment she has stopped laying because of stress of change!
2. she may be molting
3. some chicken breeds only lay eggs once in a while, I'd check on the laying habits of your chickens breed...
Hope that helps a little! Good luck!
very common, each chicken has different sizes... also a chickens first few eggs will be much smaller than usual, I had a couple of my chickens lay eggs that were the size of a small bouny ball and now they have extra large eggs. also along with individual chickens laying different size and...
Hi there and welcome to BYC! Molting is really hard on chickens... normally chickens molt in the spring and in the fall.. this is to get their warmer feathers for winter and their lighter feathers for summer. Your chickens will probably molt at around 1 year... most often you can expect all...

also forgot to add:
as in regards to getting better when free range... I'd have to say... Possibly, however, if that bully chicken isnt shown its not ok to corner the other, they will still do it when free range. although it may be fewer times... because of all the distractions.. but problems...

First I'm going to ask.. how did you introduce them to your current flock?
When I first owned chickens I ended up being the lucky owner of 3 roosters. I later introduce 3 hens to the group after my roosters...
Hi I have owned chickens for 6 years and many of my girls sleep either on the floor under the nest boxes, or even on top of my nesting boxes. Somethimes I think they just dont like sleeing on a roost. However there could be a couple things to check.
1. Height and location of roost..
