    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hi! I'm located in Jennings County. It's been a couple of years since I posted. I am looking for bantam pullets and a cockrel. A mildly mature group is fine, too. I don't really care about the breed as long as they are bantams. My FIL is jonesing to start a flock of them. I am also looking for a...

My apologies. My assunption was incorrect. Following dog breeding pedigrees, the animals aren't supposed to carry your kennel name until you produce the pup through your own breeding. I rescind my offer, I'm going to grow them out as meaties. Just thought someone might want some of them before I...

Has anyone tried solar lights in their coops? I just received mine and will be installing it this weekend. This one will go 2 hours on full power or 4 on low. Seems like about the right amount of time for the ladies.

The babies are in the coop. There's 19 of them crammed into that corner...lol. The accoustics must be better in there because there were several of the roo babies crowing after the move. My poor back porch (where they were brooding) looked like a bag of flour exploded with all the feather dust.

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hi! I have 13 FBCM and 4 blue chicks. My question is this... One of the chicks was black with some white on it's face when it was covered with down. Now that it's feathered out (5 weeks) the feathers are not black. They are a dark charcoal color. The blue chicks are a medium to pale greyish...

Opinions wanted: With regards to my fil's current sick chicken issues, it started me thinking... His coops and runs run down one side of his back yard. In the center of his yard is the leach field for the septic. The coops are probably 15 or 20 feet away from the edge of it. My bil and his clan...

So, I'm pretty sure I've narrowed down an issue my fil is having with his chickens. It started a couple of months ago. He had an aging BR hen that just fluffed up, hunched up and pretty much stayed that way. I was thinking "egg bound" he culled her. A few days ago, another hen started except she...

Questions, question and more questions... So, this is the coop. Don't mind the mess. The boxer pup is proving to be a hand-ful, tearing through a bale of straw, digging holes and dragging out everything not bolted down. The coop will need to be worked on, but it's doable for the rest of the...

The most adorable sound ever? A almost 5 week old cockerel attempting his first crow. He didn't even mess it up, sounded just like a crow should only so quiet, I wasn't sure I had heard it. Then he stood straight up, stuck out his neck and did it again. This was in response to the chaos the...

I will try and get some pictures up today. It's fully enclosed, but it's chicken wire all the way around. I want to put a weather proof top and enclose two sides for winter. I have hops plant starts on the two sides I want to enclose (that's for summer shade) that will hopefully come back up...

Today's projects: Build frame and fence in half of the coop. Put up draft board on the bottom. Re-roof (down to the rafters) the back corner of the coop. I'm probably not moving them (the 19 chicks) for a while, but I need to do this while the weather holds. Hopefully, I can get this all done...

What breeds are they? Some are less adaptable to cold and dampness than others. You have to judge by their actions, but once fully feathered they are normally fine. I would wait til after tomorrows frost tho, its going to be unseasonably cold. Temps are supposed to return to normal the next day...

    WHY DO YOU HAVE CHICKENS?????

I got mine because I'm a farm girl at heart. And 5he primary reason, I can't eat store bought eggs. They make me sick. Farm fresh, they don't bother me at all.

One more time.... I know this has been covered time and time again, but.... Based on current So. Indiana conditions, when can the babies go outside without supplemental heat. I know it has alot to do with feathering. Mine will be 5 weeks old on Monday, October 20th. They are almost fully...
