Need help with hen’s comb injury/infection? Please!

Should I trim it? Hate it for her! I saw this mentioned here:https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/how-to-treat-a-comb-injury.63109/

Need help with hen’s comb injury/infection? Please!

I need some insight! One of my daughter’s favorite hen has suffered comb injury from our sassy black copper marans. They have been separated and given their own space and new enrichment. Her comb has dramatically changed for the worse in the past 48 hours. We just cleaned it and applied...

    Mealworm farming

I have my first cycle complete! Mealies to beetles now tiny babies! Well once they are big enough to feed the ladies, I'll count that as complete. I received my first mealies from amazon mid-January. Encouraged to see the wheat bran moving around. It's been a neat science experiment in the...

Hey Penny Hen! I am so sorry for the late reply. I got this one from The Poultry House via Bonnie's Barnyard, so I am as assuming she's a true Ameraucana. Here is another pic, this would put her around 7-8 weeks. She doesn't roost close with the other hens and keeps to herself. I am thinking...

    Help with design of coop

I would think the 18" deep would be just fine. That's plenty of room on each side of the roost. I just stapled vinyl to the floor and going to do shavings for the floor. Have pdz on the poop board. Works great with the kitty litter scoop! How's it coming? These things always take longer than we...

    Help with design of coop

Hey Dawn! I am so sorry for the late reply, it's been busy, good but busy. We decided to go with the second design. It allowed for more open space and more room for the girls to get up and down. Overall, I am extremely pleased with how it turned out. My father is a carpenter and I am a very...

Y'all are such a knowledgable bunch I figured I could ask here. Is the Ameraucana a roo? She's more timid than the rest but I have an odd feeling she may be a he. So pretty, I hope not. She the dark one on the right. Neck is extra long in this pic bc she was checking out the phone. I can get...

Thanks @DaddyBird and @cpegram for the advice. As usual, I am being over cautious, but am so happy to get the beautiful, but dusty girls out. Worked hard this weekend to get the coop finished. Well, started and finished. I'm very blessed to have a very talented father who loves his baby girl...

    The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello all! I'm about 10 pages behind on posts, but hope everyone is well and happy hatching. Question. I live south of Nashville and have 8 girls that are little over 6 weeks old. When do you think it will be safe to move them out to the coop? They have been inside because we do not have a...

    Help with design of coop

Alright, here are some pics of the run in progress. Please ignore my sad shed, she'll get some new doors and some fresh paint. My sweet Daddy is the best :) I removed the facing from under the eave and will cover with hardware cloth. Haven't started on the inside...and the girls will be...

    Help with design of coop

Nice! This is pretty much the same as mine, but your shed is all shiny and new! Yes, we have the double doors, I think it will work out well because they are so narrow. Please post pics of your progress. It will be cool to see how these turn out! Love your idea of windows on the end. I...

    Help with design of coop

Been busy with the new fluffs :) love your coop and run, very nice. It is very similar to what I am thinking. Btw love the pic of your roo in the nest box -"see ladies". Anything you would change? I'm planning on sand in the coop as well as in the boards. Spring is coming! Ahh!

Bwahaha! Is that yogurt face? Love it. I am raising mealworms and hope that becomes self-sufficient. Fingers crossed.

    No Brooders, No Problem

Been inspired, wrapped my chicks up in a wash cloth and stick in my shirt while I'm on the couch/computer. After a few minutes they're so relaxed they'll go on their backs. Sweet peas. I want these girls to be our pets and well loved so I've been working with them :) going to start buying my...

    Help with design of coop

This is really helpful! Thank you for sharing your dimensions. I was wondering about the height/depth that the girls needed to get up/down. They are fine with the ramps? So you think two would be sufficient? I like the idea of option 1 bc it should be easier to clean instead of the deep board...
