10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

We let Sherman go today - she was not improving and was losing weight. Sad. Thankfully, my other 3 pullets are doing great and are now outside in their tractor, pecking about happily. RIP Sherman, you were a pretty little bird.

10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

Thanks for your condolences and info Nambroth, I appreciate it. I'm just not sure how long to wait, especially since she is now losing weight and is less vigorous. I will give her another week or two as long as she keeps eating, but it's so sad how much less she weighs than her sisters :(

10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

OK, so my little Sherman is not improving. She is also losing weight now. She still eats when food is in front of her and drinks water, and she tolerates me feeding her VitB with a dropper, but I'm wondering how long I should go on. I've been supplementing her twice a day for almost 2 weeks...

    When is supplemental heat required?

When do I need to provide additional heat for my birds? It is going to get down into the teens this weekend, and my girls are only 3mos old, but fully feathered. Should I give them more/different food than their current starter feed to help them burn energy for heat? I also give them...

10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

Kathy, I am sure they were vaccinated. And Sherman's legs don't stick out like those photos, they are just more forward than is normal. I also noticed today that her right leg is FAR worse than her left, it crosses over and her little foot doesn't curl around things at all (the left one kind...

10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

Thanks so much! I will see if I can figure out a sling today. I've been separating her from the others during the day so she can have her own food and water, but putting her back in the coop with the others at night (so they don't forget about her, and also so they can all share the heat...

10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

Thanks for your help. I got a liquid B Vit supplement today and she is actually taking that better. I am 99.9% sure she was vaccinated, I got her from a well-known local chicken breeder. How do I tape her legs together? Won't that make it harder for her to get around at all? I will look for...

10wk Marans chick can't walk - possible Vit B deficiency??

Here's the info: 1) Cuckoo Marans chick, 10 weeks, I think she's lost weight in the last week - feels lighter than other chicks and she used to be the biggest. 2) She almost can't walk at all now. She sits most of the time, and often her legs stick forward instead of sitting up under her...

My 8 week old Cuckoo Marans chick is stumbling and sitting down a lot - help!

I don't treat with 1tsp, I treat with 1/4tsp per gallon weekly, this was recommended by the breeder. 2 days later I follow up with an electrolyte/probiotic additive. Should I be doing it differently? Thanks!

My 8 week old Cuckoo Marans chick is stumbling and sitting down a lot - help!

Sherman, my 8-week old Cuckoo Marans chick, is stumbling and seems to be favoring her left leg. I just got back to town after having a friend watch my 4 chicks for a week, and as soon as I checked them today I noticed that Sherman is not right. She sits down a lot more than the other chicks...
