If I'm lucky and thus little chuck makes it, will he be OK by himself?? I get lonely for him just thinking about it :( Another question - I want to try hatching another...

Chickens won't go in coop at night!!!

I ended up closing up the whole flock in the coop for like 2 days straight during a storm and that seemed to have reset their habit. Now I find them in the coop after dark without the cat and mouse game. .. I guess the trick is getting them all in at once!

    I hate Hawks!!!!

There's lengthy back story to explain why I left my coop doors open, involving trying to get one rogue bantam momma to come home, but what I just saw was horrible!! I am so sad and frustrated right now. I was in the nursery, trying to get my little one to nap, when I heard a bunch of...

    Layer feed in the winter?

Anyone ever hear of chickens refusing layer pellets? I have 11 and I've only seen them eat them on rare occasions.. Their feeder is never empty and even the plate of pellets I put out last week is still half full. They do like the scratch I got them instead, but not sure that's all I should be...

    not laying.. is she ok?

So I know chickens may not lay in the winter, but I've also heard of chickens being egg-bound and dying. How can I tell if my chicken is ok?? I got her in the beginning of July when she was 6wks old.. She had yet to lay a single egg. She was completely free ranging until about 3 wks ago I...

Hello! Have you got yours in a run or free range? We have had many predators around, we rebuilt our coop to prevent any more loss. This is my first winter with chickens so not sure if the cold makes the coyotes/fox/raccoon etc. braver? Are you going to give them any light over the winter to...
