Alrighty. I have about 100 full size and another 100 couple month old chicks. I'll start with a five gallon buck and go from there! Thank you. Though I quite like the buckets you posted a link for. Where did you get the big barrel that you have your continuous stuff going in?
Oy. She's sitting on 12, I think. I'll see what I can do this evening. This is the third cracked egg I've found under her. One I knew had a hairline crack, and it probably got smashed, but it was not eaten. The other one had been eaten but I didn't know her motives. Bugger.
I'll check the litter again, but didn't see anything before. I don't think it's a rat because I have another hen in there with hatched chicks and they've been fine. These were probably about two weeks into their hatch. I have a couple more broodys I can give the eggs to. This is her first time...
I found this under one of my broodys today. I've found three broken eggs under her now, all eaten. One definitely had a crack so I think it just got smashed. The first, I hoped she knew something was wrong, so ate it. But this today..? I don't remember when day 21 is, but did it pip and so she...
Fred's Hens,
Do you have a picture? I like the idea of troughs as well. I've been using feed buckets with the PVC piping so it's no spill, but I don't feel like all the birds are getting enough food.
Thanks!
The Bearded Nerd,
How far do you think a five gallon bucket would take you? I'm facing the same challenge, as I also have over 100 birds but want fermented feed. I can't judge how much I need to do each day and that vexes me. :)
Thanks!
Thank you, Michael apple! I'll see what I can find. Those other suggestions are great also. My chickens free range so it would be hard to cover everywhere. I need to look up the signs in their poop, because I can't remember. Thanks again!
Thank you for that. I have upwards of 100 birds, but don't mind single dosing them. I would feel more comfortable with single dosing, as I am unsure with water dosing and feed. I'm relatively new to having chickens (just over a year), so I need a good routine for worming. It's very moist here...
Yeah, pretty much. It makes me feel neglectful, yet I also feel like my chickens are pretty spoiled. They're lucky cause they're not laying right now either since they're molting, and they're pretty spendy to maintain when they aren't holding up their end of the deal. ;)
Thanks guys! I know it's lice. My chickens free range so they ignore my attempts at dust bath areas. Dusting so many is really going to be a feat. If be interested to know what the spray is for the horse stable as well. I'm also considering downsizing after this as well.
My chickens have lice. I have almost 100 that all need treated, though they seem the worst on the roos...? At any rate, I'm trying to decide if I should dust each and every one of them or bath them in the stuff that Poultry Protector is made from. Bathing them almost seems easier, but it's going...
Do you have a recommendation for the best way to use the dust? A pillow case? A pantyhose puff ball thing? A martini shaker? I'm not sure how much dust to put on them.
Also, would it be overload if I dusted them and dosed them with valbazen at the same time?
Thank you for your help. You've been...
I have 80 chickens total. But this includes about 18 smaller chicks. I was going to use the pillow case dusting method, but would love some recommendations on the most efficient way to dust them. On the can it says to not let it touch your skin, so do I need to wear gloves?
We started this and...
There is a ton of info and I'm a bit confused. I've narrowed it down to valbazen for the worms in my chickens. I had a necropsy done for a chick that died and they had a parasite load and also mite eggs. I see lice on my hens, so the chick from the necropsy probably did not have any lice because...
My plan is to use another bator to actually do the hatching. One day 18, I'll take the chicken eggs out and move them to my backup bator and leave the duck eggs. If I only had one bator, I'd probably just leave them all together, but maybe put a barrier between the eggs, go about my business as...
I went out to let my chickies out this morning and one of them did not run out of the coop. I picked her up to see what the problem may be. She's usually very friendly, so the fact that she didn't flap her wings around didn't seem weird to me. She only just hatched January 11 this year. She is a...
