I would try using carefresh bedding. We used it in are parakeet nestboxes and when we brought them in for handfeeding. It works great! It's absorbant, has no dust, and doesn't fly everywere when they flap there wings. It is more expensive but is a good alternative. Here is a link...
Congrats on almost getting new chicks! Were getting ours on the same day! Your brooders sounds good. But I'm no expert! The only thing I would worry about is the dust from them scratching.
Any more helpful hints or comments on our brooder. Also do you guys think that the divider is a good idea or not?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just all excited and nervous.
Hello, we were originally planning on getting chicks in april. But we found a feed store only a hour away, that has all the breeds we want, and they are sexed pullets, with the Merkers vacation. That starts selling chicks on February 7th and we just couldn't wait till april, and they will start...
He is a cute! The only problem is in the first pic the cere isn't that white. A new pic could defiantly clear it up though. To me it looks much too purplish. Females rarely ever have that much purple. It's almost always a much clear white, with some blue or brown. At that age, if he was younger...
They are both pretty boys. They are out of breeding condition and or the recessive pied variety, so they always have pink ceres. They are dark eyed clears, a mix of recessive pied and clear flight pied. So they keep the baby boy pink through there life. They have the white purple around the...
Thanks for the info! We have an empty wood aviary that we made afew years back. It's 6' long 2' wide and 3 1/2' tall. It also has a draft bedding holder that goes up 6" or so. You can put a divider in it. Makes it 3' by 2'. Should we put it in when there little so they don't wander too far?
Thanks alot will defiently take into consideration!! I think we are going togo with some hotwire for the bears! We don't get too hot average warm days in the summer is high 70's.
Thanks will do! Hot wire sounds good! We had a small flock a few years ago and lost all of them to a bear...

Hi I'm new to this forum and we aren't due to get are chicks until April 15th so it's still quite a wait. We have started planning the girls coop and drew it on sketch it! I would love your opinion on anything we should change. Right know the plan is to make the house 6' by 8' and the run 16' by...
