Hatching In an incubator inside a chest freezer. Good Idea?

Thanks for the links. Honestly though, I still feel like the air inside of this huge chest freezer should be sufficient. I just have a hard time believing that twelve eggs in the bottom of a chest freezer will "inhale" all of the oxygen inside when it is replenished three times daily? How sure...

Hatching In an incubator inside a chest freezer. Good Idea?

Really? The eggs need open access to oxygen? Will it not be enough that I will have to open it a few times a day to turn the eggs? Thanks.

Hatching In an incubator inside a chest freezer. Good Idea?

Hello, I am trying to keep my incubation process from being subject to outside temperature changes. Do you think that there would be an advantage to putting my incubator inside of a chest freezer? Do you see anything that could be bad about this situation. Thanks for the help.

New pullet laying....old hen now very aggressive toward pullet

It sounds like your older hen is exhibiting rooster-like behavior. This can happen when there is an absence of a rooster in the flock. When their aren't any roosters, hens will take his position. Any chances you could add a rooster to your flock?

    artificial light causes pecking?

In my experience, leaving a very bright light on continuously could cause cannibalism. But the low watt bulb that is required to increase their perception of "daylight". shouldn't affect them poorly at all. A 250w white bulb in a crowded space looks like cannibalism to me. A 60w bulb in a larger...

    Cockerel Pecking hand

Hello, Sorry about your rooster problem. I have had roosters to attack me in the past. The way I have cured the problem is by keeping a close eye on them and if I notice them starting to act as if they were going to attack me I will kick them or swat them with a stick. Watch closely after...

    My Chickens just started fighting!

Sorry about your troubles. Is it possible that they are pecking the wound on her comb because of cannibalistic behavior? What is their diet like? I have had chickens with open sores(due to predator attacks) and the other chickens never stop picking at it. I usually have to move the chicken to...

Can someone please help me identify the breed? I'm still new at this

I would agree with your opinion on the breed types. We have raised both types. The lack of eggs is strange. Perhaps she has a hiding spot?

    Worm Farming, mushrooms, mealy worms

Hello, We have raised oyster mushrooms before. I have heard that they have to be sprayed to keep bugs off of them, but if that is not a problem then I think it would work during warm months. We were trying to grow them organically in the middle of winter (to avoid having to spray for bugs)...

To people who own Chickens AND PIGS :)

The pigs stay in as long as the fence is hot. :) We do not vaccinate any of our pigs. Like I said they are very hearty animals! We currently have over thirty and we have been doing hogs for 6 years or so. We have only lost one to disease, and it was related to an infected castration wound.

To people who own Chickens AND PIGS :)

Hello, we have pigs. Our feeder pigs do not have any shelter, they live on an acre of woods inside two strands of high-tensile fencing. Our breeding hogs do have a small shelter, mostly for farrowing in bad weather. Pigs are very hearty animals! :) As to the pigs being with the chickens, I...

    Article ideas anyone?

Here are a couple of things that I have really been looking into recently. It would help a lot if I had an article that covered it all. Incubation process - how to use incubators, tips to a healthy hatch, etc. Alternative meat breeds - as opposed to Cornish Cross. Just ideas. :)

Renewable energy powered and organic Hatchery

I definitely like the idea. Sounds expensive for the breeder though, which means the chicks would have to be pretty pricey. But if you could cut down on feed expenses, this would be great!
