To all critter lovers...We've been redoing our kitchen since January 3rd. Sorry these photos aren't great... We got this idea straight out of a Better Homes & Garden magazine. I still don't have my curtains up but I can't believe we've pulled this one off. My husband has been great with the...
YAY! Sally did it! I'm so excited! I think I set the eggs under her on Thanksgiving or the day before. Should I take the ones that did not hatch away or if no more pip by this evening?
I may be picking up our first silkie hen this evening. I'll be keeping her in a cage over the weekend but was wondering - since silkies don't fly, do they just sleep in nest boxes/on the ground or do you silkie owners build short-low roosts for them?
I wonder if these new lil darlins (Hector & Annabel) are wheaten or bb red.... doesn't matter. We're totally in love. I may get a second hen for Hector today as well as a first Silkie. Work is going to pass slowly! Can't wait!
Just curious if there are any dairy goat owners on BYC making cheese? Goat cheese is wonderful and I was interested in processing... how difficult is it?
Can anyone explain the differences in Black Breasted Red and Wheaten coloring. I can't see that there is an obvious difference. I can't believe how many colors that have been developed for the OEG breed! I picked up a pair this weekend and wasn't sure of their coloring specifics. -Wish I had...
Finally! My red Star, Ruth, laid her first egg on Friday and has laid a nice size brown egg early each day since. I have 12 more young girls who will hopefully follow suit. One of the EEs has been with the roos so maybe the green egg will come soon. YAY! -Lynn
My white leghorn had been on a laying break for about two weeks and has now laid two that have good shells but both do have grainy shell deposits and both have been shaped as if she had trouble passing them. (like lightbulbs) The eggs are normal size. Any ideas. I hope she does not have some...

I'm really looking for 2 -a white and a red or partridge pullet to hatch eggs and hopefully for pets too. They certainly don't need to be show quality. I have fifteen 21 week pullets of different pure breeds, if anyone wants to trade some.
Just an FYI for those like me with pullets nearing their first laying time. My 21 birds were sniffling as well as passing worms and they had mites. I do have 3 elder-laying hens but wanted to make sure we had them all -especially the pullets, treated in time to enjoy the first eggs from the...
