Sorry to hear that. You will do better next time :) I have had to help out too, and the advice to not assist is soo strong that it took me a long time to identify where the issues were and intervene appropriately (my humidity was too high so air cells were not supporting the not quick to hatch...
I have millie pekin and pekins due to hatch from a millie/porcelain pen. If I put a roo from a roo from one to hens from the other bloodline will I get a percentage of porcelain?
I am not sure how she bred the variety in... but here is more eye candy of the frizzle
This is what I was hoping little eggie would turn into... By the end of it I was just grateful for the one little chick. We can't keep roos here... so I am hoping hen :)
I got the eggs from Renise Judge and she has a rather unique flock.

Should be a very pretty bird. Obviously hoping greatly for a hen, but a rooster would mean that a line in South East Queensland...
I am expecting shipped eggs that were collected Thursday week ago, making them 8 days or more by the time they arrive today. Is it still better to rest them, or should I be getting straight to the incubator.
I read that, but have had so many chicks die as a result of too much humidity related to my uncallibrated hygrometer and running the humidity at 60% or more from the start. I was tired of find dead in shell perfect chicks when I was not aware of the humidity error (I hadn't been checking air...
I have 4 Araucana that I assisted as the air cells were way to small and it was too late in the incubation to correct it. I had lost too many chicks as a newbie to incubating and have managed to save 4 of 5 that I expect would have drowned after pipping internally given the limited air cell...
You were spot on about the incubation. Thank you. My first hygrometer was 10% too high. Better eggs next time I start.
Meanwhile I assisted the last hatch (4 of 5 araucana chicks) and am planning to assist the next as these air cells are still well below norm. Will lockdown on day 19 to give the...
... and vinegar. Lots less humane than pulling the head (I did this onece for malformed budgie chick) to break the neck I found the chick struggled. Having said this breaking the little budgie neck was also pretty traumatic.. I was sonervous I pulled to hard and the thing came off.
I think in...
Great input into the situation. I have been silently musing the last day.
I was planning to keep the little one but closer inspection revealed only one eye and the intestines were protruding a little. I euthanized the little chick. I tried a different method baking soda and
I have acted on the advice that chicks will hatch past day 21, heard the cheeps and then they stop. Of course at this time I find chicky dead in the egg. This has happened now on three different (and my only hatches).
Today's was 1 naturally hatched overnight, one was pipped this morning, one...
Have a day old (hatched Christmas Eve). Possible my 2yo had a squeeze of this one while I wasn't watching, possible it is a weak chick. Is in a puddle, was fine this morning and now a puddle of poor baby chick...
Any rescue/sustenance remedies?
My instant reaction given age was to dip beak in...
