I would like to get some meat chicken but the minimum order is 25 chicks from JM Hatchery for Freedom Ranger. If we order 25, it'll be $2 for each chick and the shipping is $20 to ship to CA. Or we can get Cornish X from McMurray Hatchery which is a little under $2 for a chick and shipment is...
Thankfully here in California, we can buy raw milk easily without cow share. Also it's great when the milk goes sour, you don't toss it out. Make yogurt or something with it. I usually drink all my milk before that happens but will try it some day.

I like silkies but I'm concern about them being broody often. How often does your silkies go broody and for how long? I'm thinking of getting 6 bantam hens, hopefully not a loud bunch. I have a similar coop size as yours and hoping to keep 6 bantam in there full time, few occasions...

I have one pullet that's noisy when she's going to lay an egg and after laying an egg. It's not all morning but I live really close to my neighbor and I'm concern. I don't want to give her up since I raised her since she was a chick. I overheard one of my neighbor talking and their teenage...
I started raising chickens in March and it's been fun and addicting. I would add more to my flock of 3 RIR but my backyard is small. I got my RIR from petstouch.com, a farm in San Jose. The farm is a husband and wife team that mostly raises goats and sell goat milks and cheese but they sells...
I don't have an exact recipe but I roast my tomatos first before making it into soup, gives it a better flavor. I roast them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar. Puree it a bit, I like some chunks in my soup and then add chicken broth. add some salt and some half & half...
