Yes, some of my 2013 hens are showing red now that they are molting. I was thinking the same thing about my 2014s - that I'll have to wait until next fall to see their "true color".
Although I wish this wasn't happening to yours too, it does make me feel a lot better!
Thanks for the...
I started with a silver penciled plymouth rock rooster X a double laced black Barnevelder hen in 2010. It takes a lot of hatching and culling to make progress.
Thanks Andy!
This project sure is stingy with it's rewards. Here are some pictures of my boys. I have one boy who is definitely a split because he is 75% Barnie, an (SPPR roo x Barnie hen) X Barnie roo.
THE SPLIT
He is from Trisha and
looks pretty clean considering how much Barnie he has in...
Hi,
I just stumbled upon this thread and I'm wondering if anyone out there with knowledge on making silvers is still following this thread?
This is a picture of my best LF pullet this year, 2014.
I can easily see which hens are correct, but I'm having trouble knowing if the roosters a...
You should show her, she has a lot of nice qualities, a little light shafting isn't the end of the world. There will be some other Barnies there, that will make it interesting. :-)
I recently purchased a Brinsea Ova-Easy incubator. I am looking to hear from other owners of Ova-Easys. I would like to know what temperature and humidity you use for chicken eggs? How often do you have it turn the eggs? And what steps do take the last 3 days, i.e., when do you stop the turner...
Thanks for your answer, I'm still fussing with it, going to try to calibrate it.
Where do you buy the egg carton trays? From Brinsea? Won't the eggs fall out of that type?
I am guessing not Barnies because it looks like their legs are grey? Barnies would have yellow legs. Are they LF or bantams? I believe Greenfire only has bantam silvers, so, that would be another clue.
Ya, you're right Andy, the Barnies and the Marans can live together but I guess what I meant to say was that I like to keep them separate because I like to see the personality differences in the two flocks, the chickens probably don't care, lol.
I too have my first two Johan Barnie hens and...
I just got my new incubator and i'm trying to learn how to use all the settings before i put eggs in. I'm following the instructions to level the shelves but when the shelves stop and lock in position they are not level! They stop at about a 30 degree angle. I tried to call Brinsea but maybe...
My Black Copper Marans lay bigger darker eggs than my Barnies. They lay eggs with about the same frequency as the Barnies and they are about the same broodiness as the Barnies. They are more active than the Barnies, they like to do a lot of scratching, maybe they are better foragers? My BCMs are...
I hate to share this but the story gets even sadder :-( Since his passing, Farmer Johan's wife, Barbara, has been keeping a flock of Barnevelders. In the past month she has lost her whole flock to a predator, except for one brave hen. I brought the hen, I named Johanna, to my farm last Monday...
OK, so I guess it's time to defend myself.
1) First of all I responded within 3 hrs of receiving your email and offered you a very reasonable redo no questions asked.
2)The other person who got eggs from me the same week said that all of the eggs she got were fertile.
3)You told me that...
