    Eat or toss?

That makes made feel better. No rooster, so no chance in cracking a partially developed egg. I'll cook some for the birds and if they look ok then I'll consider keeping. I've had a rotten egg before... There's no mistaking those!

    Eat or toss?

We went out of town for 5 days. Our neighbors looked after our birds, but didn't collect eggs. Came home to about 18 eggs that had been sitting out for up to 5 days in 90+ degree temps. Now I don't refrigerate my eggs, but a little hesitant to eat or sell? I won't put in trash, but might end up...

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Help! I've got a broody Marans that I have been unable to break. She's been broody for a month now, so in desperation, I finally gave her some eggs. I hope that according to Murphy's law, that will cause her to break. So what if they hatch? The nesting boxes are high. Will I have to get them...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

My EE started at 21 weeks... my Polish at 1 year. We called her decoration for the first year because she sure wasn't contributing!

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

They are very low maintenance. I have a bunch in a shoebox sized plastic tub with holes on top. I remember to feed them every few months and they are still alive. There are some really cool setups with mealworm farming. We just aren't that dedicated. We got the live ones from pet smart.

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Congrats on your first egg! Do you have plastic eggs or golf balls in your nest? Sometimes young chickens need hints as to where to lay. Make sure your box is private enough. I put curtains up (stapled old dishtowels up). Most chickens figure it out, but some don't. My year old Buff Orp drops...

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Gosh I would love to, but our schedule is insane. We can't even schedule vacation because of baseball. But DS loves it, so we are along for the ride! Economy does have a decent swap, but if you are wanting covered dish, someone's home might be best.

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

We've had a lot of rain so maybe that's it? I just couldn't believe it ate a chick. My brooder is on the screen porch, so I made sure the lid was on tight!

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Enough of this snake drama! This time it happened to my BF. She called yesterday about 8:30 hyperventilating about a snake. It had gotten in with her juveniles. I sent my (hire-a) hubby to help. Just a rat snake, smaller than the one that I captured. DH told her not to worry it wouldn't eat...

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Such a beautiful bird. So sorry for your loss!

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

Knock on wood, I have yet to have a broody. We collect eggs throughout the day, so they don't usually have a clutch to sit on. And the last time I left them for an extended period of time, the snake ate the eggs before there got to be too many. I don’t know what I would do with a...

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

I'm thinking of sending my EE for necropsy. But I think the guy from the lab will be in town so I won't have to ship.

    YO GEORGIANS! :)

Should I buy eggs or wait it out?

More chicken drama! I went home for lunch today, and found my youngest EE dead. She was 15 mo. old. Didn't see signs of predators or mites. Might have drowned, as it has rained a lot here. RIP Happy Feet
