Hello! I have two broody hens in the same box, I suppose they are doing team work?... Anyway today is day 21. I came home and found and egg in two pieces, but I cannot find a chick anywhere and do not hear peeps. I checked under the first hen and found nothing, I cannot get to the other hen...
I am having the exact same issues. I started the whole flock on tetracycline because I keep seeing symptoms in a few of them. I am seeing big improvement is one of the sickest ones but the other one still has swollen and runny eyes, no odor though. She is also not eating but will drink a little...
I would start her on tetracycline and quarantine her just incase. Also on the foot, keep doing the anti bacterial cream and then coat it in Vaseline to try to suffocate any parasites that might be in the foot. Good luck!
I just got 6 new chickens, all are healthy but I think they may have carried in a respiratory illness. 2 days ago I noticed my aloha Hawaiian hen was sleeping standing up by my car, she just wants acting right. Yesterday i came home and she was worse and my polish hen was having trouble...
Update!
Since I got the egg out and trimmed the feathers, she is 100% better! I upped their calcium by putting tums in their water and she seems to be feeling great!
The egg did break a little bit from her pushing on it while the skin and egg were frozen but I think I did a good job of getting it all out. Do you think the drainage is just from being stretched out a lot and maybe a little cut internally?
It has been a high of 10 for the past few days and I had a BR hen, about 10 months old, try to lay an egg. The egg was very large and when I found her it was half in and half out. The skin was stretched around the egg hanging outside her body. Some of the skin was frost bitten. We took her...
Well.... We ended up getting baby chickens, they are now two months old. I want them to get a little bigger until I introduce even more older birds. Also, my hens aren't laying correctly right now so I don't want to stress them out...
1/7 STILL (2 months later) fighting a respiratory infection. Can't eat the eggs because of antibiotics... Hopefully when/if they get over this they will start laying more..
i have been fighting a respiratory issue for about two months. Everyone seems fine, very active. pen gets cleaned once a week and tidy up through out the week but they seem to keep passing this cough and congestion around. I did an antibiotic in the water and it help but now it's back again. I...
I wouldn't resort to putting her down especially if she is eating and drinking well. Cold to the touch isn't a bad thing, at least there is no infection. I think you are doing the right thing for her so far. How are you soaking her feet? What I did for mine was get a bucket of nice warm water...
Unfortunately my little girl passed away Thursday night . She was our absolute favorite. She ended up getting something stuck in her craw, possibly her toe that fell off?? (After all we went through and she was getting around better too! What are the odds of that ?!)
I would make a mixture of...
So, since we live in the woods and cannot free range, I have felt bad that my girls are not getting to eat very many greens. So I got this idea while gardening. I mad them their own garden with grasses and weeds that are hardy and will keep coming back, covered the top with chicken wire so they...
Dolly passed away last night. She had a "husband" named Elvis and they were inseparable. He always had to know where she was. I got a funny feeling last night and went to the coop and decided to let her out of the crate. She went right over to him and curled up like she always does. This morning...
