    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

We have 7 KCs and they all looked a like until about 12 weeks old, the.n 3 were very definitely different and male. Green heads, darker tails and the tell tale curled tail feather! It was maddening to wait, I just wanted to know so I kept guessing and looking for signs as to which were male and...

    soft shelled eggs

Thank you for your thoughts on the issue. I have been doing more research and since all the regular eggs have a really thick hard shell, I don't think it is diet. We have recently added (in the past 3 weeks) 17 chickens and 7 ducks to my original flock of only 7 chickens. I have read that stress...

    soft shelled eggs

One of my hens (don't know which one has in the past week and a half laid 3 eggs that have soft squishy shells. She lays them in odd places, like on top of a wooden table, not in the nesting boxes. In between she has laid at least one egg that had a normal shell. (one day I had the same number...

    Chicken breeds

We have Aracuanas and Wyndottes and they both did very well over the winter here is MI. This past winter (which is still hanging on it was in the 20' s last night) we did not see the ground from Thanksgiving until late March, we had about 125 - 130 inches of snow and night time temperatures were...

Adding ducks to my chicken coop

I have 8 chickens that we have had since last June. They were given to us by a friend and 6 of them are 1 year old, the other 2 are 2 & 3 years old. I added 7 Khaki Campbell ducks that are 6 weeks old and quite large to the coop today. Now my chickens won't go back in the coop. Will they...

    Moving Outside

I think I will have to bring the ducklings in at night until the nights are at least in the 40's. It is a pain, but like you said it is what it is. I want them to be happier and I know the wide space and sunshine during the day will make them happy and wear them out. Thanks, for your advice.

    Moving Outside

No I really don't we don't have electricity in the coop. As a result, without a light for extra hours of daylight our EE's stopped laying from mid Nov until mid Feb, but now I get 5 to 7 eggs a day form my 8 hens. I think that the break from laying is good for the hens, in nature they wouldn't...

    Moving Outside

That is my concern - they just don't seem very happy inside anymore. Without a heat lamp my coop is not going to be 45 - 50 degrees at night it will only be about the same temperature as the outside which could be in the low 30's. I don't wan to make them sick, but they seem a little unhappy and...

    The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

When do Khaki Campbell ducklings begin to show the signs that determine if they are ducks or drakes. I have 7 KCs that are almost 6 weeks old. None of them have darker heads, orange feet or curled tails, or black beans. They make a lot of chatter. Is is possible they could all be female? Are...

    Moving Outside

Going outside during the day would certainly help with their energy level. I suppose a smaller space at night would be better tolerated especially if they are tired from being outside during the day and running around more. Thanks for the idea.

    Moving Outside

I have 7 khaki campbell ducklings that will be 6 weeks old this weekend. The weather is finally predicted to make a turn for the better here in MI with days in the mid 40's to low 50's with nights in the 30's. Can I finally bring the ducklings form the basement to the big outdoors. They have a...

    Ducklings pecking

Thank you for the tip. I am hoping for the weather here in MI to improve so they can be outside. We have had a very cold winter nad spring is just not coming as it should. I will try to keep everyone as entertained as possible until the weather turns.

    Ducklings pecking

We have chicks too so everyone is on Chick starter. They are pulling out feathers on the wings and just behind the wings. I don't see any of them eating feathers. Three of the seven are being targets, but I can't tell if it is more than 1 doing the biting. The chicks are in a separate brooder...

    Ducklings pecking

I have 7 Khaki Campbell ducklings that are just about 5 weeks old. This morning they started some serious pecking at each other and 3 have some large bloody areas. What is making them do this, and how can I stop it. I tried giving them more space, a large outdoor pen in the sun, but they still...
