    Nevadans?

Any tips on getting our rooster to be a bit nicer to my wife? He doesn't seem to bug me much as I really don't let him - but my wife now hates him and he used to be her favorite. LOL. I tried telling her that she can't act scared but I'm not sure that is working out for her. I now have to put...

    Nevadans?

Thank you! We have a total of 4 eggs including the first one I posted. 3 have been brown like the first, but there was a cream colored one yesterday! So we have at least TWO laying now! Small pullet eggs too but they'll get bigger!

    Nevadans?

I have someone interested in them as of right now but if it doesn't work out we can talk. Best pic I have of one of them right now. I believe her crest has been plucked by the others.

    Nevadans?

I have two silkies that are very friendly and need a new home. Unfortunately they are getting picked on by the rest of the flock. Willing to drive about an hour or so if you are able to take them in. They both appear female and are very mild tempered.

When do chickens "learn" to go into the hen house on their own?

We've had our flock out in the coop for about 2 weeks now. They learned quickly to come out when the door is opened in the morning, but they don't seem to grasp the concept of retiring to the hen house for the evening. My wife has to catch each one and toss them in. When are they gonna learn?

    mixed flock, slow grower...

Ok, so we have 2 silkies, 2 bantam cochins, 1 delaware, 1 ameraucana, and our little Liza, a black jersey giant. They are all around 5 wks old and getting very feathery. Everyone except Liza...poor little lady has a few flight feathers but still a lot of her chick down. We will be putting them...

    Play Fighting

I have been witnessing this as well...especially with BOTH of my Cochins. Also with my one Silkie that I believe is a roo. I know one of my Cochins is male as well. I'm bummed he is though because the little bugger was my favorite! Will have to re home him once he is old enough.

    Cochin variety and gender?

I believe my two Cochins are banties. However, I really don't know what the specific variety of Cochin they are and I am thinking the first photos of Blanche might be a roo. Gonna be Blane instead!!! Anyone know the variety? Blanche (possibly Blane) - this one seems a bit more aggressive and...

    silkie sexing

Really thinking Dorothy may be a roo but still not quite sure. We had no concerns about Sophia until the little head sprouts started coming in a few days ago. I realize they are hard to sex at this age but any input would be appreciated! I can take better pics if needed, I just don't know what...

    Nevadans?

Hey guys, I am not soliciting with this, I'm inviting anyone interested. Every year, the small non profit private school at which I teach has a fundraising gala to help with the overwhelming costs of keeping our doors open. We have 24 students who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum...

The story of our flock begins...

Just sharing my accomplishment. Might seem silly to some but having never built a chicken coop before (or anything else for that matter) and being nervous to take on the challenge of building my very first gate, I'd like to think this is pretty successful. I'm likely going to add cross members...

Is my dog wanting to protect or murder?

She does watch them pretty intently but when I give a command or say "NO" she immediately snaps out it and licks me. Still scary. I think I'll wait until the babies are all grown up before I give them the opportunity to be near each other without protection. Even then I'll take EXTREME precaution!!

Is my dog wanting to protect or murder?

I have an approx 9 yr old Border Collie/Pointer/Terrier mix that is super sweet, always loving, high anxiety however. She loves to chase birds and on one occasion a couple yrs ago I took her with me to go fishing at a small lake and she managed to catch herself a coot (small black lake duck)...

Love it. If I planned on getting more chicks anytime soon, I'd definitely make this. But I only have 7 now and I don't think I need anymore for a while. At least my wife seems to think we don't. I'm sure she'll change her mind though!! LO
