    Free!!! Barnevelder Roo, Central Alabama

I've got three beautiful 28 week Barnevelder roos and I really only need one. Gonna keep the second as backup just in case something were to happen to the boss, but that third one really needs a new home. I'm in western Jefferson County. Pickup only

    Whoooohooo! Check out these eggs!

The dark one is the first egg from my Barnevelder girls and the giant is from one of my NH Reds. She lays one like this once or twice a week.

Barnevelder chicks, can you tell sex by their wings?

I've got six cute little Barnevelder chicks that are about 18 days old now. I noticed as their wing feathers started coming in that three have a double row of feathers that taper and three have a single straight row. Does that mean I have 3 roos and 3 pullets? The ones with the tapered wing...

More chicks, and they are beauties!

Got 6 little chipmunk looking Barnevelders today from Roy (rnau), and they are the cutest little things! He's got some really beautiful birds! Was great meeting Roy and talking with him. Learned a lot and enjoyed the visit. Thanks Roy! Here are a few pics:

Are there any hens in this bunch???(image heavy)

I think I have a bunch of roos. Take a look and please tell me at least some of these are hens. They're 4 1/2 weeks old.

    Moved em to the coop!

I moved my 4 week olds out into the coop over the weekend. Still have a few finishing touches to do, but it's sealed up and safe I think, and plenty warm for them. I used the light the first night, but took it out after that. When I opened the coop this morning, there were three up on the roosts...

    emu eggs (not hatching eggs)

I know this is a strange request, but I'd really like some emu eggs (whole or large pieces) to use in my art. If anyone is willing to send me some, I'll gladly talk price and pay the shipping charges. Please pm me. Thanks!

2 1/2 weeks old now and I think I've got a lot of roos

I'm already seeing combs and wattles (really the line under their chin that will be wattles) turning pink. Is that typical or do I have a bunch of roos? Most of them are large too, but I have 4 small ones, considerably smaller than the rest. What do you think? I'll post some pics later today.

Supposed to be red sussex. Do they look like it to you?

Newby here. These are my two week old babies. They're feathering in nicely and I love the coloring, especially on the redder ones, but are the red sussex? Will they molt again to adult feathers?

    FINALLY!!! They're here!

Got my chicks this morning and everyone looks good. A couple were a little cold and weak but I've given them all electrolytes in their water and put them under a heat lamp and they all seem to be perking up ok. Got a call from my local PO at 6:15 am and went to pick them up. They came into...

    PO'd at the PO

My chicks got into Birmingham at 6:37 am this morning and nobody seems to know where they are!!!! I've been calling around all day and waiting on someone to call me back. I thought when I was told they got there this morning 'whew! this may not be bad at all'. But here it is 3:00 pm and no...

    Using pedialyte for chicks

I've got chicks coming tomorrow (hopefully!) and I'm wondering since I don't have the electrolyte powder to add to their water if I can use pedialyte and how much to use? Add some to the water or just give them some straight pedialyte?

Wanted: Red or Speckled Sussex in Central Alabama

I'm looking for either red or speckled sussex chicks not too far from home. I have some ordered from an individual, but with this flu scare I'm wondering if it gets worse, will it affect shipping of chicks/eggs. Hopefully it won't but I'd sure feel better about it if I have some in hand. Then if...

    Needs for new chicks

Hi all. I'm new to the forum although I've been lurking for quite a while. I'll be finally getting chicks next month (Yayyyy!!) and I'd like some suggestions as to what I need to have on hand when they get here, like vitamins, medications that I might need quickly if there are problems, etc...

    Hello from Alabama

New to chickens and don't actually have any yet but I've been reading and studying the site for a while now. Moved to a bigger place last year and want to add a coop and a small flock. I've been trying to decide what kind of coop to build and found tons of great info here. My DH thinks I'm nuts...
