    Chicken Coop Do's and Don'ts

Make chicken feeders and waters out of 5 gallon buckets. Cheap, easy and hold a ton of food and water, making it easier to keep them fed and watered. There was a guy here who posted a great thread on them, then had to leave when he had to give his chickens up. I don't recall his name, sorry.

New neighbors dog killed 3 of our flock

I had my first chicken scare yesterday. Fortunately, everything worked as planned. I was working in my shop and took a small break. As I stood in my shop door, I saw something coming down my driveway about an 1/8 mile away. I couldn't make it out and didn't have my binocs with me, so used my...

    Responsibility to Secure Your Birds

I would add "and the ability" to kill a predator to that statement. Responsibility implies maturity. Maturity implies the ability to deal with reality. The reality of owning chickens is the need to kill to protect your flock. If chicken owners can't or won't deal with this reality, they need...

    Any chance these are hens?

I got 10 RIR from the local TSC mid-April this year. Unfortantely, I let the meth-head pick them out. :( I have five that look like ones in the OPs pics. That's not all bad because I'll now have a pick of the one or two roosters that I want to keep, I'll turn the others into fried chicken...

    Metal roof on the coop

You could probably get away with it, but I wouldn't. I would screw down 1x4's to the roof trusses and then screw the metal roof to the 1x4's. Plywood alone would not have enough holding power for me and our winds up here. Here's a pic as an example: Here's another one: Good luck!

Does anyone have any experience with EZ-Frames Company Bracket Kits?

Exactly. If I was building a shed and/or another chicken coop, that's what I would use. Link: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_572_572 Pic:

How do Iget more than 10 posts per page in a thread?

I'd like to change my preference for posts per page to something like 30 or 40 per page instead of the current 10. How do I do that? I cannot find any preference tab under my username. Thanks!

    Has anyone tried this feeder

Good feeder, works well, but make your own as stated above, for about $5: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/834227/make-your-own-no-waste-5-gallon-25-feed-bucket-feeder-for-about-3 Good luck!

    Waterer pictures please!

I have the TSC version of that waterer. I'm here now looking for ideas on replacing it since it always seems to leak or go empty for some reason. I bought 4 water cup/nipples but it's installed for the outdoor run; so I need to make one for inside the coop.

    help, wrong coop?

When I started reading about how to design and build a chicken coop, that's the first thing I learned: "chicken wire" isn't! It's useful for keeping raptors out but that's about it.

SW Lincoln county, TN checking in or How I Became an Egg Snob

Just moved to SW Lincoln county in the last couple of months out in the country and on my own farm (38 acres). One of my goals in moving out here was to get into chicken and egg raising. But, it had been a very long time since I had had fresh farm-raised eggs. So, I went looking and found...
