    video about chickens...

I wasn't sure where to post this, but this index seemed the most appropriate. Very interesting. I knew most of the information, but I was just happy to see it on national news...

How long before pullet eggs become big?

I am getting about a gazillion little pullet eggs. They are cute, and of course I use them myself and give them away to friends and family. I cannot sell them, though. I have had chickens for a while, so you would think I could remember this, but I don't seem to remember. About how long does...

    Grandpa's chook feeder

I got the large one of these for my chickens, and it has been up and running for a while now. It takes two weeks to teach them to use it, and it comes with instructions, which are simple, about how they will learn it. They had no trouble learning it, and it seems to work very well. I...

    Inheritance of combs....question...

I am putting my RIR roos over some Silver Laced Wyandotte hens, to create a sex link. My question is, since the RIR roos have a stand up comb and the SLW hens have a rose comb, what kind of comb should I expect the chicks to have? Just wondering. Catherine

Little Modern Game Bird Bantams (Moderns)

Update on my little Moderns. They are doing very well, and they are nice friendly little birds. They are not particularly nervous. I like them. I may show the hens some time, but I will never show the roosters, as I do not believe in dubbing. The little guys at 2 MONTHS are crowing! Can...

I need to get demand feeder...

I am really having a hard time feeding my birds. They fly at the troughs in a big clump when I am trying to put the feed in, so I cannot feed them. I do give them enough feed, they are in good shape, but I guess are just acting like chickens as if they are starving. So I am wondering if I...

    Peafowl eggs...

I have three eggs. Do I remember correctly that they take 28 days to hatch? And--should I change the humidity, or is it just like chickens? Thanks. Catherine

Pair of Blue Slate turkeys for sale, West Virginia, pick up only

Sorry, I don't have a pic, I am technologically challenged. But they are nice birds. Hatched last August. I had another female but a fox just got her. They have been free ranging and they are friendly. They are making fertile eggs because a bunch of them just hatched. Catherine (IggiMom)

? what kind of fan would be best?

We have had a cold, wet, nasty spring, which quite suddenly tuned into very very hot. The hens are sitting about with their wings out and their beaks open, panting. We want to get a fan to move air through. Can anyone suggest a good fan, or, just things to watch for when buying a fan...

    Modern game bantams...

I got my little Moderns from Ideal, which is the only place I could find them. Oh, they are so cute, and friendly, too. I got lemon blues. They do not breed true, so I have some lemon blues, some black, and some splash. But all cute. They do not really stand upright, so I am hoping that...

    egg production dropping...

I really do try to manage my little flock well. Recently I am not getting the eggs I was getting. True, I have a bunch of them broody, and apparently they plan to spend the rest of their lives like that, but still, I should be getting more eggs. I am wondering if perhaps they could be eating...

    Can I hatch Peafowl eggs?

I almost never see Peafowl eggs, because my birds free range, and they hide them. But now, one of the India Blue hens had decided to make a little messy nest in the chicken coop, and lay in it. I can't believe this. The first one I thought was a big BO eggs, and I fried it for my husband for...

    Chick feeders

There is so much waste. I have been using the little plastic cone shaped feeders, and the chicks seem to empty them out just right away, and there is a ton of feed all over the place. Is there a better feeder? Or something else I could do to reduce waste? Any ideas? Catherine (IggiMom)

I do this with my older chickens, but I was wondering if you can put vinegar in the water of the chicks, also? Ok to do? Thanks. Catherine (IggiMom)

tragic accident and question re small chicks...

An animal got into my nice little hutch in which Fluffy (my Silkie hen) was happily raising 5 baby chicks. I found one chick alive, did not find the other four. I found Fluffy, and although she appears a little chewed up, I think she will live. Of course I am not sure. I held her and held...

    Poor mistreated egg survives...

Early in the incubation, I accidentally turned up my incubator too high, and when I got up in the morning it was at 107 + degrees. I figured all the eggs were goners, but left them in the incubator anyway, although I didn't turn them much, because, of course, they were goners. Four of them...

    Staggered hatched...

WHY AM I DOING THIS TO MYSELF? I already have too many chicks, and I am a bit handicapped. I can hardly keep up with everything. Ok, back to my question... How do you all handle cleaning out the incubator when you have staggered hatched? For instance, one batch hatched, and the others...

    Why do they quit?

I just finished a large hatch in my new Lyons. It was all shipped eggs and really it was a good hatch, so I should not complain. But I checked the eggs that didn't hatch and every one, except the ones I had tossed previously because they candled clear, had a little chick, all feathered out...
