    Encouraging egg laying.

Is there a way to encourage my Khakis to start laying. I have 6 khakis one indian runner and a rouen. All ducks are just over 6 mths. Is this still too early to expect eggs? If they are old enough is there anything that will help get them started. They are fed a layer crumb along with a 5 grain...

    First time mother hatched babies?

Yeah. I figured it would be the easiest way too. Lots less work for me lol. I was very surprised she sat the entire incubation. She went once before but wouldn't sit.

    First time mother hatched babies?

I will have some chicks hatching in the next day or so. One of my leghorns went broody on me. I decided to let her sit and see what happens. Is their anything special I have to do when they hatch. I would like to leave them with the hen. Will they be o.k. with the rest of the flock? Any help...

    egg layers

I am new to keeping ducks so will have lots of questions. Lets start with do I need a drake for them to lay? I have chickens too and was hoping to keep them in the same coop? Do ducks use a nestbox like chickens ? Or just some straw or shavings on the floor? Thanks in advance for any input. Sandy

    How long??

Hi all. I just picked up a rooster for my flock of 14 hens. I am wondering how long he needs to be with them before I can start incubating eggs with reasonable expectations of fertile eggs. I realize there is no set time. Just looking for some advice from those with more experience than this...

    can chickens eat Maggots??

My chickens love maggots. It's a good source of cheap protein for them. At this time of year my compost is full of maggots and they go crazy for them. Maggots only eat dead meat. So no worries there. In fact maggots and leeches are being used more and more now in hospitals to treat human...

Hi Everyone. New to the site and enjoying it immensely. I just got my first laying hens and was wondering if I should be feeding free access or a daily measured amount. Also they have been in the coop and small fenced of area for approx. a week now. How long before I can let them free range so...
