We currently have buff/black/lav Orpington, blue/white ameraucanas, ee's with a very bad quality silver ameraucana roo, black/red Turkens, black jersey giant, silkies and showgirls, oeg's, and sebright mixes.
We also have our old lady production red and a few mixes of chickens and ducks. This...
I agree with black breasted red for coloring, although I don't think it's oeg. Lacks the white earlobes which are still pretty present in mixes. The tail is different too. He does look younger. Maybe a copper maran, welsummer, some other black breasted red, copper, or wheaten straight-comb...
Thanks, I'll check her out when the time comes. I gotcha there about Ny being NYC, when we tell people where we live in just syracuse, we have to say "Canada, eh!" lol. Beautiful mountains, those Adirondacks. If all goes to fail with finding a white breeder, you could order a number of whites...
That's good. I'm not familair with Chicken Scratch Poultry. We order the ameraucanas from McMurrays, and realized as we watched them grow that they were really EE's. Well, learned to read the fine print carefully. Can't wait to see pics of the ones you keep.
Hi and Welcome! We have a couple JG blacks, but our three came from McMurrays. Would love to get some black and blues from a breeder. I've been interested in the dorkings, which I guess the white variety is the best(well second to the much rarer cuckoo). Maybe it will be similar in Jersey's? The...
So the background story:
Parents bought about 20 birds from auction. Most were cheap roosters (almost all the birds were going cheap, these ranged $.50 to $1.50) that they planed to finish fattening up and eat. The other chunk consisted mostly of two broodies and their chicks. Against my...
Hello! I have 3 NN's, Dr. Cluck and his lovely nurses. I hope to breed some showgirls later with Dr. Cluck as DF doesn't want to keep many NN (DM said NN or no jersey giants )
Anyways, I saw a post somewhere else that said many breeders are striving for a featherless bird. May I ask why? Does...
:) #5 and 3 are genetically that way. 3 has more naked neck gene which caused it to be featherless (danger of sunburn), and #5 is the ideal look for a turken/Naked Neck. We have a couple and they are cute with their uglyness.
If they weren't priced their priced values, I would say no.6, but then I would want a mate for it.... so # 3 would find a home with me, something about oddballs.
Welcome! Good luck on your adventure! Chickens are a joy to have and I hope you have the best experience possible. There is a ny state threadyou might consider joining and meeting folks around you.

Hi from St. Lawrence county. Is nice to see someone farther up north :D Ours did good in a shed we built for them. It had ventilation under the eaves. Water is the biggest problem up here. I would look up ideas for keeping water warm and find the best that's suited for you.
We have one polish bantam hen. She is notably smaller then our large fowl polish, about the size of a non-hatchery silkie. I've only seen white crested polish in bantams, I don;t believe any other varieties have become bantam sized yet. Hope you find the bantam breed for you!
They are gorgeous! LF White tops right? We have a LF roo and hen, as well as a bantam hen. Our roo is named Einstein although he is nicknamed cranium right now as he is missing a good chunk of his feathers (poor guy).
