Hello, I have posted a few times about this hen before, she is around 9 years old and a Barnevelder. She has itchy crusty skin a lot of the time and has clumps of crust around the base of all her feathers. When trying to remove the crust, the feather often comes out as if it were barely even...
Sorry I completely forgot to reply. Thank you very much, this is all extremely helpful. I ended up getting some Permethrin online and doing as you instructed - hoping this will work as the house was completely infested once I took it apart. Thank you once again, very useful advice.
Hello, I have 4 medium sized hens with mites and I have some ivermectin pour on. Am I correct in thinking I should put 4 drops on their neck once, then again 10 days later?
Also how long until I can re-treat? I'm assuming I shouldn't be doing it every 10 days, so how long do I have to wait...
Thank you for the advice!! I will just continue monitoring her now for the moment. I guess I'm just worried that maybe she has something wrong with her that is not allowing her to absorb vitamin A properly, if that's even a thing!
Hi sorry, I should have been more clear, she has had growths in...
Hi again everyone!
I am wondering if she maybe has a Vitamin A deficiency. She has been having bubbly saliva around her mouth for about a year and a half now, which I noticed at the same time as I noticed the growths in her neck (can't remember if I've mentioned that in this thread or not) so I...
Glad to hear she's eating! You could always mix the poultry cell with the water you use to wet her food - that's what I was doing with my chicken except it was in a powder form, and she would eat all of it every time. The food should mask the taste somewhat, especially if you mix some scrambled...
Her crop looks quite prominent in the 2nd pic. Plus what you said about the brown liquid makes me think she has sour crop. It is probably filled with fluid. Does her breath smell very bad?
You can get Apple Cider Vinegar with garlic mixed in, which is a good antifungal, as a preventative in...
If she's still not eating it what I would do is mix a small bowl of crumble with some water and let it turn into a mashed potato-type consistency, and then add a tiny amount of treats to it (maybe some of the old food) to get her attention. When she starts eating the treats, some of the food...
This is part of the reason why I switched to pellets over mash, the mash I used to feed them had little bits of corn or something in and they would pick them out and knock the rest on the floor. With pellets they are all the same sort of thing so they just eat it properly without any issues.
I have an old lady who has a large pendulous crop too which almost always feels fluidy apart from first thing in the morning. If she eats anything tough like grass, leaves, or large bits of fruit, etc, it seems to have trouble passing for a while. If I were you I would not let her eat any of...
Looks cecal to me, although I have also gotten yellow poop from hens with septic egg yolk peritonitis. Then again it's not usually as "foamy" looking, so I think it is just cecal.
This is Cream (she had a sister called Custard who died a little over 4 years ago) and she is probably around 8 now, she is slowing down a little every year but I think she is still as beautiful as ever and she is the most friendly chicken I have ever owned. I will sit on the bench in the...
Update: Marek's came back negative, although the vet says this test rarely gives false negatives so I think she is going under the assumption that it is a rare case since she ticks all the boxes. Either way, Coco is doing very well and is back to living with the rest of the flock most of the...
