So, finally at 16 weeks and one of my Tetra Tints has started laying....double yolks! Oddly, my rooster makes an odd, nervous clucking sound, non-stop while she is laying. He only stops when she leaves the egg and comes out if the coop. Anyone know what that's all about?

This bird has had a red comb for several weeks. She is the only one with such a large comb, but she is still, and always has been, just a tad smaller than the rest.

I am hoping that my daughters 15 week old Tetra Tint is a hen, but can anyone tell? Some of my others for comparison:

I'm having similar issues. I'm new to chickens, and these last few days I've had an on and off stomach bug. Cramps, bloating and a constant feeling of "needing to go". I'm wondering if it's from constant contact with my chickens.

Anyone??

As it turns out, she's not a rooster. Yay!

Is it normal for my Roo to chase hens and peck at their tails? He hasn't hurt them, but they seem to avoid him constantly.

Wow. Big changes in this scene! Rocky has now started biting tails and preventing my girls from getting food. So I have put food and water outside the coop, and shown Rocky the door. Literally. He now free ranges all day and when I let him back in the coop in the evening, after the girls have...

Anyone know how long I should leave him in the run before allowing him out with the pullets? He doesn't seem interested in them, and the seem to avoid him. I just want them to return to the coop together. Where my hens aren't mature, I don't think he is "drawn" to them.

I just picked up my new rooster. He's a one year old Silver laced Wyandotte. His name is Rocky. I was surprised at how mellow and friendly his is. I rescued him from a home where roosters are not allowed, per town code. When I got home, I put him right in the run. The ladies, (6 Tetra Tints)...

The pictures are my Tetra Tints. They are about 11 weeks old.

They are about 11 weeks old now. Settling in nicely.
