Sorry to leave my post in limbo. I was watching him interact with the hens and my children because he was starting to get a little agressive. Sure enough, he became agressive toward me also this week. I had to bring him to the Humane Society today. It was HORRIBLE!!!
The ladies at the...
I tried to give "Woodstock" away before it got cold outside but there were no takers. Here is my last attempt before I have to take him to the humane society (we are very very sad). I live in a subdivision and he is now crowing all the time so I can't put the husband off any longer. I am in...
Thanks
So can you consider biting on hens necks from the sides the first sign of trying to mate? What should I look for next? Is there any behavior he might do that I should stop? He has NEVER tried to come near me...he is really timid and is NOT at the top of the pecking order. He is sooo...
OH MY GOSH...he just did it again!!! He is 23 weeks old and the girls are 32 weeks. I never remember reading anywhere about that particular mating behavior...start biting on their necks and they will fall on love with you???
I was just outside hangin' out with the 5 girls and my one bantam rooster. They were all nicely picking at the grass and all of a sudden, the roo started nipping at one of the girls necks (from the side). She got away. Next thing I know, he grabs onto another girl on her neck (also on the...
My roo didn't start crowing until around 18 weeks or so. He still sounds a little rusty, but his crow has come a long way in just a few weeks. The good news...he only crows in the morning (once or twice), so maybe you'll get lucky! My neighbors are very close, but they don't mind hearing him...
Thanks everybody!! We actually found out he was a real "he" about 6 weeks ago when he started crowing a little in the morning. He only does it once or twice a day but it does seem to be getting a little less rusty than before...
I can't wait to see if he ever gets to be nice to all the girls...
I have a 22 week old cochin bantam frizzle that has never even looked interested in his 5 ladies??? Is that normal? At what age will he "become of age" ? None of the girls are bantams and one of my australorps is the Alpha chick over everybody else, so could that be why he is not doing his...
My Australorp named Tweety started at 23 1/2 weeks old. She gave us 2 weeks of pullet eggs, went broody for 2 days, and now we haven't seen another egg in at least 3 weeks. Ugh!
Hi Jen...I replied to your silkie eggs...I guess I have the same question for your cochin eggs. Is it worth a try? I know my girls would love to see Tweety sitting on a group of eggs!
My oldest turned broody this week...just curious, is it too late in the year to have her sit on the eggs outside? We live in Michigan. Since I have never had chickens before, it would be my first attempt at hatching. What do you think?
