I use glad press and seal on top of mine. I replace it when it gets poopy. I found it to be an easy way to keep it clean since I could easily wipe or replace as needed.
I am looking for a hatchery near Kansas City or one with good luck if shipping to KC with a good selection of chicks available soon. Looking for breeds like Black Star, Red Star, rose comb brown leghorn, Easter Eggers, any type of Maran, Well Summer.
I didn't think a chicken molted their first year, but I have an 8 month old polish missing lots of feathers. I see new ones growing in. She is pretty scraggly looking and missing all her tail feathers. She is perky and active, but not laying eggs. This has been going on a couple of weeks. Not...
Could my 8 month pullet be molting? She has lost lots of feather but appears to be growing in new. She stopped laying, but still seems perky and very active. She looks pretty bad. Trying to figure out how concerned I should be.
My EE started laying a week ago. The first few we very green now they are green with a hint of blue. We are still waiting on our other EE to start laying. They are apart of our first flick and all hatched March 15.
The food won't make them lay eggs. They have to be mature enough to lay eggs. My 8 chickens were hatched March 13. One started laying August 1, another one started last week, and a third started to lay eggs today. I still have 5 not laying.
The previous poster mentioned layer rations which is...
i have two silver laced wyndottes. I am worried one could be a Roo. The picture with the two the one I wonder about is in the back then I have a picture of just the one in question. They are 14 weeks old. [/IMG]
I put mine out at 5 weeks. I did not give additional heat and they did great. I live in Kansas City and we had cold spell right after putting them out and over nights got to the low 40's. Mine were in a solid enclosed coop at night and between coop and run during the day when it was in the mid 60's.
@Egghead_JrThe chick in my top pictures has more white on its head and neck, but less white on its body. The darker chicken is also the larger one with more red on its wattle.
Thanks for your replies. I wondered when his comb came up so quickly these last few days. Now I need to find him a new home. The down side to chickens in the city limits.
this is my six week old packing peanut. I think it is a lakenvelder, and beginning to think it is a Roo. However, I am a first time chicken owner and would love to hear from others.
