Can anyone help with the age of my duck? When we got her we were told she was 4.5/5 months old, but even though she has her white feathers her wings were stumpy when we got her and over the last few weeks she now has fully feathered long wings.
This is lemon, we got her on Monday, she is an aylesbury (obviously not purebreed) she is mostly feathered but still growing her wing feathers and still has fluffy down uncovered on her tail. We were told she was 4/5 months old but I'd like to be a bit more accurate. Any guesses?
We currently have our 4 month old aylesbury hen separated from our 2.5 year pekin drake. She is fine with our 2 year old campbell hen, no pecking. But we put them together when we can supervise, our drake is trying to mate her. Is she too young? I'm worried if he's successful it may cause...
Hi everyone. I have a 2.5 year old pekin drake and a 2.5 year old white campbell hen. We have just introduced a female 4 month old aylesbury hen. My drake is attacking her but not drawing blood, he is trying to mate her. She hasn't developed all her adult wing feathers yet and she's not old...
I buy organic feed but I supplement it with home grown lettuce and Swiss chard, they've already dug up my garlic which wasn't meant for them so I've had to get raised beds. We give them peas, meal worms, watermelon, lettuce as they are fussy and don't seem to like much else
Hi sorry to jump on an old thread, my ducks eyes are also red around the outside, almost as though you can see her pink lids more prominent than usual, she has recently had an upper respiratory infection. But seems perfectly happy and healthy now. I notice the redness around the eyes more so...
Can people note them if giving ducks spaghetti, read the ingredients label, most spaghetti has added sugar which is NOT good for ducks. Use organic 100% spelt spaghetti as this is an ancient grain with no additives.
Sorry to jump on. How did you soak their feet? Mine won't stay still to stand in the solution long enough. We had surgery at the vets and then wrapped the foot, but the scab came back, she now has it in her other foot, she's not limping or anything but I don't want it getting worse, have tried...
We've moved to scotland now and have now put corrugated plastic around the outside of the pen with space at the top for ventilation and they still have their enclosed duck house where they nest. Our boy usually sits outside the house in the pen though. They've been through one winter so far...
Hi. I was just wondering if any of you have experienced ice forming on ducks feathers? I've heard this isn't good for ducks but if it's just on the external back feathers not sure why? Does it mean they can't get warm? And what do you do if it happens?
Thamks for the reply.
We are moving to scotland which apparently gets some pretty nasty winters although probably not as harsh as yours!. Currently there is a mini duck house (like a small dog kennel) inside the coop i described above and i put plenty of hay down on the floor. We lock them in...
Hi
I was just wondering what is the best way to keep ducks warm in the winter. I was toying with the idea of getting an electric heat mat but there is the obvious risk of dry hay and electricity. I have also thought of hanging a heat lamp from the roof of their coop but with the coop not...
I'm in the same boat. My little girl who I've had from days old used to love sitting on my lap and follow me around and falling asleep on me. Now she's over a year old and it seems like she hates me. She will still eat out of my hand but she hates being picked up to the point where she bites...
It doesn't seem like she's freaking out. It's seems more of an excitement thing. And since she's been hunching it's much easier to pick her up for a cuddle. I have noticed she's got bumblefoot on one of her feet in the early stages, could this be an influence?
Campbells the one in the middle. She has her head resting on her body with her neck tucked in. This is how she stands up and runs around, doesn't always extend her neck out
She's not as hunched up today as what she has been. And I've noticed the loud quacks only happen when I'm around. I can hear her quacking normally when I'm inside the house. But if I go the window or go outside she gets excitable which is normal for her but this is when the really loud...
Ummmm. You know when their head is resting on their breast when sat down? She keeps doing this when stood up and running around. Like she is all hunched up. But not all the time, she can extend her neck when she wants to. But the head tucking started when the loud quacking did. If that makes sense?
I'm a bit concerned about my little lady Campbell becoming loud. She's nearing a year old. She's normally chatty but she had started quacking REALLY loudly, the same quack she uses for when our boy is being a bit rough when mating her. Not all the time, but mostly when she sees us or its...
