I am very worried for them, they seem incredibly on edge while they are outside during the day and at night they are absolutely terrified when we lock them up. I feel so bad for them. I hope with time that they will be comfortable again in the coop? At this point I am almost positive it was a...
We vented the more secure "winter" coop and fixed the entry point. My girls are so scared to sleep in the coop we decided to drape some towels over the venting (which is covered by hardware cloth) to calm them down. Left some cayenne pepper and hot sauce filled marshmallows out. In the morning...
Thank you very much for the advice! We weren't sure if a raccoon could squeeze though the small space as you said, and also weren't sure how a weasel or a mink could drag two hens. We will be reinforcing today, I appreciate your help!
Hi, I have (had) a flock of 4 leghorn pullets that live in a coop built up against my garage. We have a wood, elevated coop that the hens sleep in in the winter time, however, in the summer, they have taken to sleeping in a less secure section that we built from metal siding. It is much cooler...
I tried massaging her crop and she vomited up more water. She keeps sucking it down. I noticed labored breathing, squeaking, and closing her eyes a lot. She did open her mouth a lot ager vomiting. Could it be an impacted crop? Will do with the vinegar, eggs, and yogurt!
My chicken has been getting picked on lately, and when I picked her up to protect her from another hen, a ton of clear, thick liquid came out of her mouth. She is making strange, quiet, squeaking noises occasionally and is drinking a lot of water. Her crop seems rather large as well. Please...
Well it's crop seems pretty large, and it is acting weird. Very quite and it closes its eyes and shakes its head gently. I isolated it and gave it food and water, it is drinking quite a bit.
Help, one of my chickens is extremely sick. She has been getting picked on, and when I noticed her being picked on I picked her up and she started drooling profusely. It was clear and thick. I'm very worried, I love my chickens like children and I want to help her. Any suggestions?
A few days ago I noticed one hen had blood in her feathers on the back of the neck. I noticed black scabs on the red part of her head. Then I noticed that blood was sprayed on the inside of the coop. Could this be from being in too small of a space over night? Are the others attacking her?
Sorry I thought I attached a picture. It looks like poop is getting stuck in its feathers under its butt. They are stuck together and it almost looks like they may be falling out/thinning in the area
I was wondering if anyone knows what this is. My chicken is about 7 months old. It has been going on for maybe a month now. Can anyone identify and tell me how to treat it?
Yes I do get normal eggs. Sometimes when they are larger, I notice the shell is rippled on one end but the shell is still hard. Thank you so much for responding!
I have found a few of these in my coop, and am not sure what they are. They appear to be soft shells. I have five leghorn hens but I can't be sure which ones are laying because they never lay in the nesting box. They usually lay in some small spot on my porch or around the yard so I can't tell...
We have a door that slides closed during the night to keep them inside, the bottom of their coop is 1/2 inch hardware cloth. The coop is temporary for now, we are planning to build one off the side of the house for winters. Can coyotes, foxes, or raccoons get them through the door or the thick...
