I loved hearing your roosters! And I think they have great names! This section has been great to learn a bit about roos since all of my books only talk about hens.
The Australorps look girly to me. My BA roo was still poorly feathered at that age and shortly after (10-12 weeks) had bright red comb and wattles. At 16 weeks my Australorp hen still has only the faintest pink in her comb.
Hello fellow Utah chicken folk. I'm excited to hear people talk about the Tour de Coops - I'm a tour stop this year so maybe I'll get to meet some of you. We are loving our coop and our happy chickens and learning a lot as we go.
PS Adorable australorp rooster anyone? Is it really not legal to...
Oh you guys are making me feel so much better. I think she is about 6 weeks old, sorry for not saying that earlier. Thank you for sharing the pictures too!
so naturally she is the only one of the 6 chicks with a comb that's turning pink. This is the most social and outgoing of the chicks, and she loves her people. So what's up with the comb and these tail feathers? I want to keep her so badly!
Roosters or pullets? We've had these australorps for 4 weeks. Chicken #1 is lagging behind all the other chicks as far as feathers, and has only a tiny tail. I started to worry she was a rooster...but then, chicken #2 started getting so big and loud, and legs are really thick. Now I don't...
I'm raising my first batch of six happy chicks and having so much fun. Looking forward to some good advice and ideas from this site.
The chicks share the house with me and my cute firefighting husband, 8 year old daughter, 6 year old son, 2 dogs, 3 cats and obviously lots of chaos.
