Looking for advise! I have a hen who hatched out 4 guinea fowl keets that are just over a week old. She has done great with them in an enclosure in our garage. Yesterday I tried to give her 5 more keets that are 6 days younger then hers. They just hatched Thursday/Friday. She seemed fine and let...
A few of my chickens have stopped laying in the nesting boxes in the coop and are now laying in the guinea fowl nests outside in the woods. How can I get them to stop and continue laying in the coop? I should add they free range all day and go into the coop at night with the guinea fowl.
I have a broody australorp (well three actually lol). But I was thinking about using one of them to hatch out some of my guinea fowl eggs. But I had a few questions
How many guinea eggs should I put under an australorp? She is a big girl :)
Is it cruel if I don't let her keep any of the...
I would keep them all locked up for a week or longer. That way they can establish bonds together and the new birds will be less likely to take off or wander off.
Guinea require pretty much the same care as chickens. They are native to Africa and not equipped to survive in our climate with our predators without help from us. Honestly I think you are just setting them up to die a very very early death.
Guineas have a strong homing instinct, especially if...
I raised my last batch with chicks of the same age. They did really good. I think the chicks helped keep the keets calmer.
Agree with poster above, ducks are not a good idea
Make sure you have the humidity high enough for hatching. They require a higher humidity then chickens. Try to get it around 70-74%
As far as raising them, same requirements as chicks, heat lamp so it's 99* under it. I like to use paper towel for the flooring for the first week and change it...
I'm not sure how long they have already been sitting for though. I have 4 black australorps and can't tell them apart. So I'm just worried if I gave them eggs they might get off partly through incubation and the poor babies would die
I'm new to chickens, we got our current girls as hatchlings last spring.
I've had a few girls go broody over winter and two who are broody now. We have no rooster and I take the eggs away. So they are currently sitting on golf balls.
My question is, is there a certain length of time they go...
i am a first time chicken owner and we have 13 chicks ranging in age from 8 weeks to 5 weeks. We are only keep pullets, so the sooner I can figure out which are roos the better.

I'd like your opinions, this is my only barred rock so I have nothing to compare it to. I'm really hoping it's a female which I think is clouding my judgement.[/IMG]

I had bought the Farm Innovators one and returned it the next day. It did not keep a steady temp inside the incubator even after running for 8+ hours. It also had hot spots which I could not wrap my head around since it is a circulated air incubator. Instead I paid a little more and...
I have a week old buff orpington chick who was acting fine yesterday. Now today she keeps her head under her chest. I picked her up and got her to drink some water, but even in my hand she kept her head under her chest. She can't control where in the brooder she is as she isn't walking. Any...
