I was wondering if anyone knows how I could get hold of a hat for my Polish chickens, to stop the other chickens pecking their heads raw. It might sound like a crazy request, but I thought, if there are chicken and duck daipers and saddles then someone must make hats!
I just want to protect...
All 5 of mine failed:(
Cracked them open today and just chick soup inside. Must have quit about day 5 ??
Second failed hatch.
Now putting mad hatch into lockdown tonight. Hope i get SOMETHING from this lot.
I'm still waiting....
end of day 21/start of day 22 now and nothing..
there is still hope! I hope.
Sooo envious of the little fluffybutts who have already hatched for you all!
I had the same problem with this incubator and the chicks drowned. Soak up the water with a paper towel and run it dry until lockdown. It will hold at about 30-40 % humidity with no added water which is ideal.
I am on day 18, and will go into lockdown tonight. I set mine at midnight on 11th/12th July, so probably should have locked down last night, but I did read that some people only lockdown once they hear chirping/see pips (internal or external, not sure). I cannot hear or see any movement in my...
It could be ascites which is fluid caused by heart or liver failure, also it could be internal laying. If her bottom end is really fluid filled, then you can drain it with a sterile syringe and give her a lot of relief. It won't cure the underlying condition but could help her be comfortable and...
We had the same issue recently. Adding oyster shell did not make any difference. During our recent moult, I scrambled a load of old eggs we had WITH their shells crushed in and fed this to the hens. It gave them extra protein and calcium when their bodies were being depleted by growing new...
I wish mine were that active and that easy to see. I have 5 that look good, 1 I dropped, and 1 that went bad, 4 I think did not develop and a couple I am not sure about. Why is candling so hard for me?
Stick them straight in the incubator and see what happens? Nothing to lose. They will either be ok or not. Probably lockdown a day or two sooner though.
When you candled how old did they look?
I sit them for 24 hours pointy side down and then incubate in the same position without turning for 4-6 days to let the air sac reattach. So far this has worked with my current batch and we are on day 10. So i have only been turning for 3 days. They are now on their side out of the little...
I like the fact that you have your temp sensor inside a jar. I assume this is to mimic the temp inside the egg as opposed to the air temp around the egg? genius.
what did you fill the jar with?
I have the same issue! Marking the eggs won't help unless you are watching each chick hatch individually.
I have resigned myself to enjoying the guessing game during the first few weeks as I try and identify which one is which breed (with the help of BYC of course!). Just an added bit of fun...
I just set a second batch in a homemade incubator which will be 5 days behind the ones in the brinsea. I can then transfsr them for lockdown to a better controlled environment as the other batch will have hatched by then (or not).
My second batch is a mad hatch (thanks walkwithdogs) made up of...
Can anyone advise?
I put the eggs in last night after moving it to a room with fewer draughts so the temps are more stable. Currently at 38c with 30% humidity. I can raise or lower the temp by adjusting the height of the lamp above. I would really like to know the safe temp limits so i work to...
i wonder how a hen ensures a bacteria free environment in a nest or under a bush? ;)
I think concentrate on warmth and humidity as the important things :)
Best of luck for your hatch.
