they have layer crumbles from the local co-op. i don't remember the content percentages. but i've added peas and peanut butter for extra protein because they were molting and other yummy things to it because they eat more of it that way.
cluckies, your girls are so cute ! :)
there could be rats or mice. but other than that, nothing, they're in their mobile coop in the garage right now so i can close them up during the nasty weather, and then during the day i let them out into their run as well which goes into the driveway...
this morning i did a better check on all my girls and it seems most of them have a little bit of bleeding on their backs. what the heck?? even the hen that i thought was doing the pecking has a small sore. is this some sort of disease? i did a check for it on the internet and i don't see...
thank your help and advice. i decided to put her back out with her buddies because she was looking for them in the house and wasn't happy. also, last time i had to separate someone there was a pretty nasty re-introduction period that i would like to avoid. so i put her in a large wire dog...
no, we don't have a roo. :\ maybe the other girls are being mean- i understand being sick and tired of winter and looking for something else to do. it looks like some kind of mange to me, but i'm hoping it's not a disease. she's not acting sick in any way. after we washed it we put some...
i noticed that my girl has a bloody spot on her back when i checked on them this morning so i brought her in to check it out. she has been molting, so the missing feathers didn't stick out as something to be alarmed about in the past. i've got a washcloth on the area- warm, wet with a little...
she is much perkier, she's going to sleep some, but it looks more intentional (she's actually nesting down instead of just dropping off.) i have noticed some reddish bits in her stool last night and this morning- i don't know if i'm overanalyzing. we did see her take a drink this morning and...
ok, this has to be just a really strange coincidence, but we had taken in a friend's hen about a month ago and tried to get her assimilated into the flock and i decided it wasn't working out (my flock wouldn't let her eat and drink, and she pretty much just stayed on a perch all day.) the...
Thank you for clarifying. I made her some scrambled eggs and she was happy with that. I have not observed her drink, nor has my daughter. So that is a concern, altho she was getting medicated water with the oats she ate.
they're rolled, not whole. and i was just trying that out because she had refused her crumbles this morning and i wanted to get something into her. she loves oats. i can switch when i feel like she's getting some calories. but until then i thought it would be better to get anything in her...
thank you! i have brought her in to keep her warm and watch her. i made her a mix per this description:
The treatment I have read about that is said to be the best is to separate your chickens and then use Corid 9.6% liquid solution. The dosage is 9.5cc to a gallon of water for five days...
she is much worse today. walking around with her eyes closed, puffed up feathers, empty crop, messy vent feathers. i brought her back inside to try to keep her warmer and see if i can get some med in her. she won't take it voluntarily. should i syringe feed it to her?
I got the meds and will start tomorrow. Should I treat the whole flock (of only 5 hens) in case they all are getting it, or should i separate and treat only the one who is lethargic?
