Just wanted to update my thread regarding my sweet Henny Penny (a three week old Delaware) who came down with wry neck 12 days ago...she is fully recovered and doing just fine, now.
I treated her with poly -visol drops (no iron) and vitamin e mixed in yogurt or feed every 8 hours for 5 days...
I have introduced horizontal nipples (currently have 3 in red, plastic folgers coffee container) to my flock of 3 week old Delawares, RIR and Jersey Giants. I've only witnessed them successfully drink water when more than 2 fight over the same nipple -- and in the frenzy one of them pecks it...
Thank you so much for your reply! Can I add the poly-visol to everyone's drinking water? Are my other chicks going to get it? Is this because I've been feeding them un-medicated crumble? I am starting treatment immediately...what about vitamin e and selenium? Should I keep her separate? No one...
My chicks are almost two weeks old. I just went out in the middle of the night to check on them in the garage and Henny Penny (a sweet little Delaware chick) was in an unusual mound in the corner. She is resting with her head upside down?? The flock got her to run...but her head looks funny? Is...
Thanks! They are 6 days old and I have not given them anything but this scrambled egg. My one chick who got sick got some mash and cottage cheese (I was desperate and she seemed like a goner.) Everyone seems to be doing great now. But I think I 'm going to sprinkle some grit on their food right now.
I am on day 6 with my funny, little chicks and while one Jersey Giant had a rough 24 hours -- she seems to have made a complete recovery (fingers crossed!)
I just gave my girls some soft scrambled egg for dinner. They were pretty funny..taking turns at first and chasing eachother around.
My...
Baby chick is back to her normal chicky self now! It's amazing! I thought she was a goner. Girls are all moving into their new residence today. Thanks for everyone's replies!!! Bay Bay Peepers -- you are a wonderful person! Thanks again!!
Ok...she will not eat mash...I put it on her beak and she barely licks it off...I've put her beak in electrolyte tea three times this morning...she barely licks drop off her beak. She's still not active but she looks less comatose...hope this makes sense and I appreciate everyone's advice. Thanks!
My run is under shady oaks. I was planning on building a brooder out of osb and keeping them in the garage...box in bathtub was temporary as we wanted them close for a couple of days to monitor closely after shipping.
My neighbor had one! It says 87 degrees. Sick chick just pooed little tiny bit -- but solid. I still have not seen her eat since yesterday. I got her to drink electrolyte tea...but she really didn't want to.
I don't think it's too hot now. And other chicks never acted too hot. Other Jersey...
No..I'll go get a thermometer at Home Depot. I live in a rural neighborhood with a feed store every 150 ft...but no one sells thermometers. Thanks for everyone's advice!
Thanks for quick replies! I am offering electrolyte tea right now. I really don't know if being too hot is problem because other chicks are all happy and moving around. Trying to post pic...I live in Southern California and it is probably 85 during day.
I received 7 brand new chicks (3 Delawares, 2 RIR and 2 lovely black Jersey giants from mypetchicken) on Tuesday. I gave them the electrolyte and probiotic drink offered with regular water for the first two days. The Jersey Giants were both panting the first day. I adjusted light but they would...
