Rooster is ill, laying head on ground.

Thanks! They are potent, but the worry is that he's just at the beginning so we could just knock it out. None of the others seem to be having any issues so far, so hopefully keeping him inside and separate a few days to allow the antibiotics time to work will prevent having anything spread to...

Rooster is ill, laying head on ground.

Just posting updates in case someone reads in the future. The stool sample didn't show any parasites or worms, but the vet believes it is the onset of an infection which may be pneumonia. He was given Baytril and Metronidazole to cover any bacterial infection. Hopefully he will be up and...

Rooster is ill, laying head on ground.

If it matters, we got him as a day old from MM and he was vaccinated for both Cocci and Marek's as well as the rest of the flock. No one else seems to have any issues at all. (They are all one group. I also have some chicks that are younger, but they are not out of the brooder yet and haven't...

Rooster is ill, laying head on ground.

It's more like he's exhausted. He isn't curling his neck as in that picture, but laying his head down. Hubby got home with the LA-200 and got him to eat (hubby is the treat dispenser to the flock). He just stood up awhile, ate and drank and now is resting again. His eyes are intermittently...

Rooster is ill, laying head on ground.

My 10 month old Cochin roo had his eye closed yesterday evening during their free range time. This morning, he was standing in the back of the coop with his head on the ground. We've brought him inside to warm him up and he just wants to sleep. He will drink if I dip his beak in the water, but...

    Pine shavings

I'm certainly not an expert on this subject, so I'm sorry I can't offer you any real advice. However, I can tell you that if you go pick up one of the bags with the sawdust (and it IS sawdust, it may be coarse, but it's VERY dusty) and one of the shavings without it, you'll notice a HUGE...

How much do you handle chicks?

My oldest flock is only 9 months old, so I'm relatively new with chickens. I handled all of them equally (and often) as babies, but there are a few that still run away and some that can't wait to get my attention. It is said that some breeds are more flighty than others, but I have more than one...

What was your free mystery chick from Murray Mcmurray hatchery??

I had to research SS to identify mine. I got Welsummers in my order, so that made it really hard. Anyway, I got the brown leghorns in my last order and they had yellow legs. The SS have pink/white legs. I hope this helps! Also, my SS was really BROWN. If I'm recalling correctly, the leghorns had...

    How are they doing today?

    What Breed is this?

Looks like mine. Here she is at a day old. Here she is today about 2 weeks. I know for sure she is an EE, and even though it is said most white EE are male, she ACTS like a girl, so I'm hoping she is She had the identical markings and coloring of a Buttercup, but has since become much...

I hope everything works out! In nature, there is no way to regulate with the precision we try to apply, so I'm hoping this will work out just fine!

Anyone impatiently waiting for your baby chicks to arrive?!?!

I understand completely. I opted to have a replacement order shipped because we had a break in the weather last weekend. Where are you located? Maybe someone here near you has Welsummers or knows where to get them.

Same here. My neighbor has a lake for a backyard, so I am grateful I have better drainage but it's still YUCKY!

Anyone impatiently waiting for your baby chicks to arrive?!?!

Yes. Call them. They may even be able to ship sooner than the 23rd, but you can definitely change your date to then and tell them to ship asap (*this is provided you have at least 25 in your order, they won't ship orders of less than 25 prior to April).

Anyone impatiently waiting for your baby chicks to arrive?!?!

In my very limited experiences, I've won some of those and lost some. The hatchery suggested honey, so I did give them some and then I just went ahead and put some in their waterer, too. One that had worried me sick all day yesterday because she was lethargic and didn't seem to be very active is...

Possible ID on some bantam chicks?

Trust me, I'm not arguing with you (I don't know jack! The only reason I commented was because I was trying to figure out which I received in my order). Here's a link to McMurray's page on them. In both their video and their picture, they show them as black, gray and white...
