Rooster must go. South Seattle area (Sea Tac) Washington state

Thanks for the update. Glad he is enjoying the girls as even here he was quite the ladies roo. Didn't know about his crow yet as he was still just learning when I had him. Maybe it will become more "manly" as he grows. LOL We miss him but it sure helps knowing he is in a good home.

    Rooster has to go

Here is my boy. I don't know his breed, I was told he was a pullet when I got him with several others who are all pullets. Hubby sleeps during the day and can't deal with the outside noise. I live in a very urban are so even though they are allowed, not in my house, are they.

    Rooster has to go

My hen has become a rooster and has to go. He is a beautiful 9 month old. He has been fed a 100% organic diet since I got him in August. I live near SeaTac Airport so know not many in this area can't have them but if you know anyone who would like one, I need to act fast. My husband will not...

Fun with the chickens and a question

I'll take it slowly with them. I want them to live as stress free as possible. I'll try free ranging them this weekend when i have time to keep a closer eye on them and see what happens. I now have a mystery roo, a barred rock, ameracauna as the original flock. The newbies are a leggorn and a...

Fun with the chickens and a question

What a fun month so far. My Black Ameraucana has been laying for just over a month now and I average 5 eggs a week. My Barred rock just started laying last week and the first egg was in the middle of the yard and almost a transparent white. The second egg was where it belonged (in the nest...

New hens are joining my flock

Thank you for the responses thus far. I have been to her house and saw how sweet and friendly her hens were but that was before I had mine. It is partially what encouraged me to have hens. There is no broken quarantine as I have not had any contact her hens since I got mine or with any...

New hens are joining my flock

I have a friend who is moving out of state and has to let go of her 2 hens. They are 3 years old and the Leghorn still lays eggs daily but the RIR not so much since the weather turned cold. I have agreed to take them in to join my 3 that are 7-8 months old. 1 is laying regularly and the other...

Finally, I got my first egg today

Kinda excited here. My 28 week old Black Ameraucana (although I suspect an Easter Egger by the greenish color of her egg) laid her first egg today. I'm shocked as it is a few weeks short the shortest day of daylight of the year so we only get about 9 hours of daylight and we're just coming out...

    Mealworm farming

I bought 1000 worms. I have 4 hens and possible 1 roo who I hope is a hen. The room they are in is about 70 hope that is good enough for them I realize it may take a bit longer to get them to the mature state and then have new worms too.

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was at the Feed Store in Burien on Friday morning when a gentleman came in and showed the guy behind the counter a photograph of 2 beautiful and very friendly chickens that were on his doorstep. He wanted to know how to locate owners he gave them a photo and picked up some seed but no idea...

    Mealworm farming

I just got my mealworms yesterday from Rainbow Farms. Very well packaged and not a single dead one. Even with the freezing cold recently they are all very active. So onto my next venture. I wasn't going to raise them but just intented to buy in bulk (I just use them for treats and bribes) as...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

Such a sad story, it really brought tears to my eyes. I just can't imagine having to go through it but then to go through it again by writing it all down and basically experiencing it a second time but I do thank you for all the information you have passed out to us. You have made me so much...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

I am so sorry you have lost so many and such a variety too. I am sure you are crushed as I surely would be and well and would probably give up but your story has really caused me to be prepared and learn as much as I can early on so I don't end up losing anymore. What do you think are the...

5th chick dying in my hands right now - help!

I just spent my evening reading this whole nightmare. Oh what would I do, I do think you are also a warrior going through so much. As a new chicken keeper, this whole disease part of it scares me to death. Love my girls so much it would tear me apart. Glad to hear it sounds like your DH is...

First major windy night of fall in Seattle

Thanks. That was a wild night. I wonder if they slept at all last night I went out at midnight just before I went to bed and they were still awake. They all seem fine this morning though.

First major windy night of fall in Seattle

Wow, we are getting the wild wind tonight out here at Seatac airport. I went out to check on the chickens and they are all wide awake and uptight but still up on the roost (its very dark and 10:00 at night so they should be snuggled together and sleeping). I don't know why they're so restless...
