Is it possible that THEY couldn't raise chickens when they were there because they were also raising chickens for Tyson, and they mistakenly think there can be no chickens there at all?
You could even get several different kinds if you wanted to. I have Buff O's and Rhode Island Reds (both of which I am very happy with, although the RIR's are more friendly than the Buffs and I thought it would be the other way around.)
I couldn't decide between them! This spring I'm planning...
My girl is a Buff Orpington. I don't let her keep any of the eggs for more that a couple of hours (Not enough coming at this time of year for me to spare them:) ).
She doesn't peck me though and when I take the eggs I put her out of the nest.
So I guess she'll give up when she gives up?

Yes, yet another poster who is unhappily housing a broody hen. Why, oh why would a chicken think that January is a good time to bring chicks into the world? Not that we have a rooster anyway, so it's a mute point.
Anyway, if left to thier own devices, how long will a chicken sit on an empty...
Starlings have very different coloration in the winter than they do in the spring and summer. The spots are their winter colors.
And I have to admit, I like them.
I have a pullet whose comb was red and now has yellow on it. Mostly at the base. It seems strange to me.
She's seven months old and I'm pretty sure has been laying, although not a lot.
I don't know if it matters, but she has a really large comb for a RIR pullet. I've seen other breeds with...

We're gonna fence off a portion of the back yard away from the deck. I dont want to keep them in their run, it's not really big, but the poop is getting tiresome. We'll give them a big chunk of yard so they can run around and have room, and so that I can watch them from the house (and deck once...
I just got my first on Tuesday. Then another chicken started to lay yesterday, and today I got 2 (TWO!) eggs! Mine are 24 weeks today. Yipee for us!!!
And GaNewChick, here's hoping your hens get to work on some eggs pronto!
I would think that getting them back in their run shouldn't be a problem. They will usually put themselves to bed at night. Might they follow you into the garden for treats?
Mine are 23 weeks and I'm waiting as well. Maybe if I decorate their little nest boxes they will like them more and want to lay and egg in them to show me how happy they are.
A couple of plush pillows and some flowery wallpaper.
A little vanity table and a mirror........
Mine used to fly into my lap when they were little, and I had a BO runt who only wanted to be held. Then they wouldn't come anywhere near me. Now, at 22 weks, My RIR's are becoming much more willing to be touched, if not picked up. My BO runt is as big as her sisters, and my other BO is living...
