I did not know about the spray. I dusted the coop, but I will try to find the spray to treat the cracks and crevices of the coop this weekend. Thank you for the advice.
I noticed my rooster wanting to sleep on the coop floor rather than roosting. At the same time, a new hen that I was given seemed to acquire a bright red area under her vent. She also started having a very messy vent. My other hens seem to be getting a little more messy around their vents more...
Another question after doing some research... would a RIR rooster with a cuckoo maran hen give a bsl chick with a darker brown egg compared to a bsl chick that came from a barred rock hen? But the rooster determines egg color?
Sorry for all the questions, I really want to know more about...
Thank you very much for the help. Could you explain why a red rooster allows for a more visbile spot on a bsl chick? I thought the chicks would be black at hatch and the white spot comes from the barred rock hen's baring gene. With the red rooster the bsl chicks are black because the black from...
Sorry was trying to do it from my phone but it wouldn't let me upload both of them :(. The rooster with more black has blue shanks, the more white rooster has green shanks and is getting a gold tint to him with dark red/orange splashes on his back with age. Both are muffed with pea combs. We had...
A local feed store would like to buy chicks from me next spring, however they really want some black sex link chicks. Right now I have 2 Rhode Island Red roosters and 2 Easter Egger roosters (not barred) over 13 RIR hens and 22 EE hens. I would like to add maybe 10 Barred Rock hens. I know the...
Lol they look just like mine. I also got some silvers/grays/whites as Easter Eggers. One all white one is the biggest and bossiest. Nice picture taking skills as well!
Okay thank you for the news. I figured they were getting slammed... it sounds like we aren't horrible chick parents after all. I'll be ordering in March from now on. I am hoping it was the cold weather as well, but I still don't know how the signs of the sick ones I had were caused by cold...
I'm not disappointed with Meyer Hatchery. I received two extras in shipment, all my Easter Eggers are beautifully colored although about 25% were weak, possibly from shipping USPS. All my RIRs were very strong and active, a few are on the small side though. Meyer is dealing in a very hard...
Mine are in an 8x4ft box with two lamps over one end. Temp is stable around 95 to 100 in some spots. Chicks are evening spaced out under lights sleeping away. They make trips to the other side and run back to their buddies. Room temp is about 70.
Katiemcp and wahnsdlr, please let me know what they say. They're taking a while to get back to me. They must be experiencing high email volumes. They do get back to me and have been really nice to this point so far. I feel they are good people with good intentions, I am just hoping this was just...
Well my sick one that held on for some time is now dead as well. 4 of my 31 Easter Eggers are gone, it's now over 10% of my EEs dead. None of my RIRs have died. I'm praying the storm is over...
I forgot to add there was a lot green diarrhea in shipping box which changed to foamy white in some after eating and drinking... poops seem normal now after electrolytes/vitamins. I seen some possible intestinal shedding with blood too so I did a low preventative dose of Corid in their water...
I'm having the same issue. 16 RIR and 31 EE from Meyer Hatchery. My EEs are slowly dropping 1 by 1. All arrived fine, eating and drinking. Although the EEs seemed very weak compared to the RIRs. Two died in the first 24, they laid down and wouldn't move. Started coughing up mucus and...
