Does anyone use their swedes for meat birds? I was gonna buther 4, 5 month old Cockerels today. I went to get the first bird and all I feel is rib cage and skinny legs. So I went and checked my 8 month old Rooster and he feels about the same. I just couldn't bring myself to do it after that.
Oh that's so sad. I hate when they die after they worked so hard to hatch. Did you find snowflakes somewhere else?
No I didn't, during the summer we are way to busy to to hatch. Family coming and going and my Hatch Room, or as my wife calls it our Grandchildrens room, has to stay...
These are beautiful birds. I spent 50 bucks for 22 eggs but only 3 hatched after it took six days for the post office to deliver. All 3 died within a couple days. I was heart broken.
Hello everyone, just came across this thread. Sure wish I would have found it before I spent 50 bucks on 22 eggs from the rare birds group on Facebook. Postal service took 6 days to get them to me and only 3 ended up hatching. Was surprised they hatched at all concidering I was just waiting for...
Hey everyone. I have snowflake Bobwhites in the incubator. I had 14 of 22 make it to lockdown. I am now on day 25 and have no pips, no movement. Nothing. I have hatched many Corturnix and normally have a 80% hatch rate, but this is my first try on Bobwhites. So I'm dumbfounded. There was a...
Should I be concerned about this? I have 3 young hens, just reaching laying age. One is 3 weeks younger than the others. One started laying small eggs 3 days ago. I went out this morning to retrieve her egg and found 2 right next to each other. In the photo below you will see both eggs. The...
First Egg!!!! Went out to the coop to let the chickens into the run, and there on the ground was an egg. Must of been laid right before dark as I didn't see it when I locked them in last night. They were hatched on October 17 and we have been anxiously looking for 2 weeks. Now if the other 3...
Good Morning everyone, my chicks are now a little over 6 weeks old. It looks like I have 7 out of the 11 are cockerels. I was gonna sell these but I'm concidering keeping one Roo. Currently I have hens in black, blue and splash. My 6 month old Cockereral is a black mil fleur. Of the chicks I...
Hello all, I've been raising chickens and quail for about 6 months. I would really like a couple turkeys. I'm reading that lots of folks keep both their chickens and Turkeys together, but then I read that some can't get the turkeys to go in a coop. My chicken coop is a 4x8 box with an 8x12 run...
We had a beautiful day in East Texas yesterday and spent the whole afternoon outside with our flock. Thought I would take a few pics to show them off. The big black Cockerel is an Olive Egger that Texas Flower gave us at a day old when our first hatch only produced one bird. He's a great bird...
I started separating them a couple weeks ago trying to figure out which ones were. I have them all separated into 4 different groups. These 2 that out not laying our in a pen with a Roo. All 3 of my other pens are providing that number of hens in eggs. This pen, no eggs.
My brown corturnix quail are now 16 weeks old. I'm getting a steady supply of 7 eggs per day and have been for several weeks. But I still have 2 that are not laying. I have automatic lighting that comes on at 3 am. I feed them high protein game bird as well as oyster shell. I walk by every day...
I understand your frustration and I am by far not trying to start a fight. I just lose it when I hear someone shooting a dog. From what you posted I assumed you lived in the country as you was able to follow the feather trail without crossing a fence. As a country boy myself I have had my fair...
Good luck collecting anything. It is your responsibility to protect your chickens from preditors, and shame on you for even considering shooting a dog for doing what is instinctive.
It went off without a hitch. I opened the run door at 5:15. They messed around, ate some weeds and at 6:05 they single filed into the coop. Thanks for the info.
I have 6 chickens that were 3 months old on Jan 17. I keep them in a 4x8 coop with an 8x12 run. They have been going into the coop at night on there own for about 2 weeks with out me having to corner them and physically put them there.
I would like to start releasing them into the yard, but am...
I'm sure there is a falconer in your area. A craigslist ad may help. They are easily trapped and relocated. But will need a Master Falconner to do it. No one will issue a permit to trap or kill a bird of prey.
I fed mine medicated for their first 8 weeks with no issues. I don't have them on it now, mainly because so many don't. I most likely won't with this batch in the oven now either. I did give a pedicure mixture in the water for the first 3 weeks. All of mine did fine.
