Been over two months now... All chickens still healthy and all are happily producing strong, healthy eggs.
So... I guess I might say don't panic. I know all the literature seems serious, but your chicken might be just fine.
Update of sorts... One week later... So far none of the chickens look sick, and none have died.
A couple of our young pullets have begun laying new small but perfect little green
eggs, and our leghorn I suspected above has resumed laying her big perfect white eggs.
I can't be sure all...
Thank you both for your ideas and links. I posted another thread about this in the disease forum... once I found out it was a serious medical condition. I thought it would be better to have the discussion there. I have posted an update there just a few minutes ago, though I'm still not sure...
Thank you so much for giving the number for that avian health office in Puyallup. She was super helpful and after a long conversation with her, I feel like hubby and I understand a lot more about it than we did before.
She explained that it's likely one of our older hens (and our oldest...
So you think it wouldn't be a pullet? That would rule out three.
We can tell them apart, we only have one of each breed, on purpose!
We have only one green egged hen, and she's been laying healthy eggs nearly every day, so it's probably not her.
When I'm feeling the pelvis, am I feeling...
Thanks... I can at least call them for advice this morning. We have 10 hens. Two roosters
We are around and will be trying to narrow it down, but all look fine to us so far, and with the season, not all are laying right now, a few are young pullets who never laid yet. I'm not sure what...
But the link also talks of success if treating early, vaccinations, and respiratory infections, which makes me think there's a communicable element. I may not save the hen that laid this, but what about the rest of the flock?
I posted in the wrong forum, because I thought what we had was just a weird egg formation, and it turns out it is more serious.
A "lash egg".

So I should have posted it here.
Now what...
Oh no... that doesn't sound good :(
Can I treat my whole flock? I don't know which chicken laid it. They all look good.
How are antibiotics administered? We have 10 hens and two roosters.
Hi all We saw this in the coop and knew we'd better cut it open.
We cut it open, and I knew we'd better post some pictures and ask y'all!
It's rubbery.
It has the consistency of slicing a hot dog in the solid part.
It didn't smell real good.
We have a few new pullets we've raised who...
That's about how it went. And I did want to make sure I got a leghorn egg under her this time! I am not sure I *needed* more chickens, but how could I tell momma no? :) She just wants to be a momma.
Both the blond chicks may be from this momma... they look very alike.
I've read the EE sexing thread, and it seems mine don't ever look exactly like the examples ;)
Will try to get better pictures then as they grow up. It's early yet, I know. They're cute, and healthy, and that's the most important thing right now.
Thanks anyway so far! :)
Any gender clues?
The father is an Easter Egger.... big red game bird type markings, below, with some of the likely mothers. The mothers are likely to be the White Leghorn, the Black Australorpe, and the red chicks might be Buff Orps, out of this broody momma, or maybe the RIR below...
Hi. Wanted to report something, and see if it's perhaps common... or not, or what experiences others have had.
Our Buff Orpington hen went broody - again, this last month, and her chicks all hatched yesterday.
She was sitting on four. The reason for this thread, is that about a week ago...
Our Suzi went broody again a while back.... well... 22 days ago to be exact. :)
We let her have four eggs.
Yesterday morning she hatched all four.
They all have an Easter Egger daddy. One is out of our Leghorn, one looks like an Austrolorpe chick, and 2 are chipmonk chicks that might be...
Well, we moved her, and her eggs and nesting material, to our 'broody coop' designed for this purpose, two days ago, and closed her in there.
She didn't exactly approve of the move at first, there was a lot of chatter and complaints... and when evening came, she chose the roost, not the...
