Ended Official BYC Contest - Worst Chicken Molt Pictures - Fall/Winter 2014

Does molting occur because of the weather? I've haven't noticed my girls ever looking that.. er, scraggly? I've got Isa Brown mixes? I suppose some breeds are worse than others, but that is a whole new level of chicken nakedness!

We already have some of that charcoal powder, I just went and looked, so I'll add that! Yep, there's always a dish of duckling pellets/crumble there for them, and I clean it out and refill it a few times a day so its not old and its always full. They get peas too, but they are just hand fed a...

Hi Amiga! I'm extremely insistent on there being water everywhere they go - they have two in their pen that are filled up all the time, and when they go outside they have another water dish as well as a clam to swim in. I've been feeding them baby pellets and peas as treats, and they like to...

I have a question and would love some help please! As you know, I have two Runner ducklings, who are already getting full-fledged adult feathers! Exciting! But today, I noticed my larger of the two, Athena, seems a bit flat? It was slight at the most, since it appears only I noticed, and Artemis...

New to chickens- Problem with a growth

Hi Gonzi! Welcome! I'm a newbie too! Oh my, never seen anything like that before! I'd definitely consider consulting a vet. I hope they are alright.

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hi fellow Australians! I'm a pretty big newbie here, but have owned chickens for a while and recently got two Indian Runner ducklings who are a couple weeks old. They are very cute and I have read a lot about Runners, but I was wondering how I should go about training them and getting them...

Exploring the garden for the first time *pics*

Yes, we're not going to let ours out until they're a bit bigger. We have heard of hawks swooping down and taking ducks, full grown too, which completely freaks us all out. Luckily, we don't really have them around here, and trees all over the place, but we still will take precautions.

I just got my first Runner ducklings! Two little ducks, Athena and Artemis are the names decided on, although they could change in the next couple days. They're darlings! Been watching them all day playing, sleeping and preening themselves and all I do is AWWWWWWW. Ha ha

    Quiet Ducks?

Thanks for all the replies! :D The Pekin looks really sweet! I've seen a few adds for them here in Australia, so I am going to get researching! Edit: I do have a quick question that I can't find a clear answer for, but when it comes to owning just a Drake for instance, is there a breeding...

    Quiet Ducks?

Thanks for replying! :) We have a property that is around an acre, and in it, are two small hens who keep to themselves. We have a large shed-turned-coop, that has several different closed off areas so they can escape to their own private place if needed. Khaki Campbell's are the most popular...

    Hello from Australia!

Thank you for the welcome! ^_^ I have decided to learn how to care for a duckling. I already have some idea from working with ponies on a property that had lots of poultry, but I think this forum will be great for learning!

    Quiet Ducks?

Hello! I'm interested in raising a duckling, but my household is reluctant because "they're too noisy" and the whole Ducks vs Chickens war is going to begin any moment now. :D I'm in Australia and was wondering if there are quiet ducks, or if they are noisy at all? (I've never owned a Duck...

    Hello from Australia!

Thanks! :D She was a lovely girl. I'd like to ask what people think about chickens vs ducks? I'd like to have a Khaki Campbell duckling to raise, instead of another chick, as a new experience and because I like ducks. However, my mum seems to dislike them, apart from the fact she has never owned...

Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

Hello fellow Australian Chickeners! I just joined to learn more about my girls. I just lost a hen and it was a terrible shock. Want to ensure it doesn't happen again. She was a pretty epic chicken. I'm decided now between another chicken, or maybe a duck or goose?

    Hello from Australia!

Thanks drumstick diva, BantamLover and Michael OShay! She was so pretty, but I have no idea what breed she was! Our other two were Isa Browns. Ember looked like an Isa Brown, but she had this amazing black design on her feathers that made her look as if they were burning coals. I'll have to do...

    Hello from Australia!

Hello BackYard Chickens users! I decided to make this account to help myself and my family raise our chickens. We recently had our first tragedy - my favourite chicken, EmberDragon, died and it was a complete shock. So I decided it was a great idea to join a reliable site to help us prevent...
