Perfect. I'm going to do that. The marking sounds like a super idea because I'm not sure, but it seems like it might be different ones that are not underneath her when I check. Thanks alot you guys!
Erica,
Thanks for the advice. I will dust her with diatomaceous earth. I have a cat in the barn where the coop is, but the coop is closed at night so she can't patrol for mice/ rats then. How do you get rid of rats/ mice in a coop? I'm wondering if I need to build a little cage/coop for...
I have not marked them, but I can do that now. I just wonder if any of them are any good with the way she's acting. I'd love to start over and do this thing right, but I don't know if she will continue to sit for an extra 2 weeks. What do you think?

We have a 6 mo. old broody Leghorn (2 of them) that is faithfully sitting, but not on all the eggs. I keep finding them on the outsides of her nest. It's like she only wants to sit on a couple of eggs. She is almost 2 weeks into this. Could I pull all the eggs put her in a more enclosed...
Thanks for the info. I moved her into the coop this evening, with a little nest made on the floor in the corner (like in the goat pen). She sat there for a little bit, fussed at a silkie that came near and then got up, ate, drank, etc... I did not see her go back to the nest. oh yeah, and...
I have a 7 month old Leghorn that has always insisted on laying her egg in the goat pen in the corner. The last 2 days she has parked their all day. I picked her up last night thinking she might be sick or injured. She did not fight or fuss with my picking her up. She just sat in my hands...

Oh great! How old are your chicks? I plan to hang my heat lamp with a chain from the top of the stall. I sure didn't want to rely on the clip! Maybe I'll start by hanging 2 of them.
Thanks for the info!

I have 31, 3 1/2 week old chicks (silkies, layers, and guineas). I was hoping to move them to their coop, which is a 12X12' stall in our barn that has been predator proofed, when they are 4 weeks old. We are outside Nashville and nights have been as low as 28 degrees so far. Daytimes warm up...
I am going through this very same thing. I introduced 6 new pullets and before you knew it, almost all had swollen heads, eyes shut, white foam coming out of their eyes, sneezing/ coughing, and rattled breathing. We gave Duramycin in their water for 5 days, then we injected 10/18 of the...
HI there. I am extremely confused. Sadly, we had to cull our flock of 18 birds this past weekend due to Macroplasmosis and possible Coriza infections due to mixing new birds in the flock -( I've learned my lesson). I was told by a man at our university Ag dept. to "cover the floor with...
We are sadly culling our flock of 14 chickens and 4 guineas tomorrow due to Macroplasmosis G, possible Coryza, pox, you name it. I was told by one of the Ag guys at the university that I needed to put hydrated lime on the coop. I'm not sure if I use Ag lime or hydrated lime? Do I sprinkle it...
I was afraid I was going to have to kill them. I've never done such a thing. Should I cull even the chickens/guineas that have not shown symptoms? Even the ones that were sick and look better now? I have a show silkie and another silkie and 4 guineas that have not shown any symptoms. Do I...
In June, I moved from CO to TN with my 5 laying hens in my minivan in a dog crate. Within 5 weeks moved again to another house due to mold. Chickens came with plus 4 guinea chicks I bought. Second home had an existing coop (one of the stalls in the barn) and came with 3 roos and another hen -...
We don't have a truck. We will just have a minivan. I was thinking that with some straw in a dog crate, 5 hens should do ok and not stink too much? I'll also have 2 kids, 2 cats, and one dog in the minivan. It's going to be a fun 18 hours.
Has anyone moved chickens in a moving van or mini-van in a dog crate? I am moving from CO to TN and would love to take my 5 one year old hens with me. Any ideas?
I have 5 nine-week old chickens that we just got in their coop. I live in a heavily Covenant controlled area where they actually have people who drive around looking for "non-compliant" residents. Needless to say, I have our coop hidden in the 5 foot side yard between my house and our privacy...
