    Perhaps in my original post, I didn't explain myself clearly. Earl has NO wound, NO broken flesh and therefore I felt safe in applying the tiny bit of the cayenne in the Vick's. He simply has a loss of overlying feathers, like they might have picked them put. And no I wouldn't put something...

    We've had to put in the heated bowl today. The galvanized drinking can was frozen solid! So...this new heated dish is a big one and looks more like a dog dish. I thought that it should be elevated more so that the chickens won't try to roost in it, poop in it, or throw too much wood shavings...
