Thank you! My husband is going to build some flaps that go over the vents so we can shut them down if needed depending on where the wind and weather is coming out of!

I will get some inside pics later! The roosts will be along the back wall far enough under the venting so there are no drafts. Hopefully. The backside faces the west. It's sitting on 6 sawed off 4x4s and each one has a concrete block under it. Sits off the ground about 15 inches. My husband was...

Hi michigan friends. I wanted to post the new coop my husband and family built! We live in the Kalamazoo area and finally outgrew our old coop. This new one is 8x10. It has 20 sqft of ventilation built into the roof area plus two windows that open 10 inches on each side. It's not quite finished...

This is the side view of the vents. The roof hangs off a foot on each side and that seemed to help keep the rain out. Any suggestions or critiques are welcome!

This is our new coop. It's 8x10. We built it to allow for 20 sqft of ventilation in the roof plus both window open 10 inches. This was a huge project for us. I'm hoping we don't have a flawed design with all the vents in the top. But we put this up and it poured rain the next 2 days and it was...

Thank you! I really don't want to downsize. So I guess I'll be talking to my husband to upsize :) do most people allow for 4-5 sq ft per bird?? When we were building the coop we tried to allow for enough space. But the bigger they got the less space we had!! If we didn't have the barred rocks I...

The more I'm reading about ventilation the more I'm convinced I don't have enough. I was paranoid that too much would make it drafty and I'm not sure how I can add more without hitting them while they're on their perches. I think our coop needs some work but I'm leaning more and more towards...

My coop is 4 x 7 (not sure how tall I would have to measure) and it's raised about 2 ft off the ground. The nesting boxes are on the outside so they don't take up floor space. I should say I also have a rooster. I have 3 barred rocks, 3 australorps, 2 Easter eggers and my rooster is a large fowl...

Hi everyone! I'm new here and new to raising chickens. I have 8 girls who are all around 20 weeks and starting to lay! I'm located in southwest michigan and trying to prepare for winter and possibly getting a bigger coop before then! How many of you have successfully had a dirt floor? Right now...
