    One hen exiled

Have have 4 hens that have been together since chicks 10 months ago. Beginning a few days ago 3 hens are separating one from the flock. The 3 will all go over to a corner of the pen and huddle with their backs to her. It appears they are on top of each other. If the odd one out comes near...

Ended Official BYC Mini-contest - Tell us your funniest chicken story and win!

We have only had our "Girls" for about 6 months. In early November our son babysat while we went out of town. We received a phone call and he said one of our hens was out of the pen. We thought that he hadn't closed the gate good. A few days later my husband was backing his truck out of the...

    Production hen vs. Ameracana

Thank you all for responding. I have one small Wyndotte that seems to be a little pushy, we say she has little hen syndrome. None of them fight each other and do not like to be separated. They were 5 months this month so I think I need to give her a couple more months (if they usually lay at...

    Production hen vs. Ameracana

No, they are in a 10x10x6 area with the coop inside the enclosure. The only time they are out of there, someone is with them.

    Production hen vs. Ameracana

That is interesting because when I got her she was classed as a "production hen" and is to lay daily. She just looks like a RIR.

    Production hen vs. Ameracana

This is my first year to have chickens. I have 1 production hen that looks like a RIR, 2 Ameracaunas, and 1 Wyandotte. They were hatched in July of this year and about 5 days ago I began to have eggs. I know they are not the RIR because they are green. My question is regarding the RIR, she...

Chickens lay in a big pile in front of the coop door so they all can't get in at night

I have the same problem. I have put mine in the coop a couple nights in a row but they still pile up outside the coop. We had several chilly mornings and when I went out they were in the coop and on the roosting bars. Wondering if eventually they will stay up with cooler weather. Also is it...
