I have found pheasants to be harder to hatch as well. They start then die pipping sometimes. Make sure your humidity is up and do not open the bator till they are done. I have tried to assist them but it usually did not help much with survival. Maybe raise temp a degree or two as well.Good luck...
Yes if she is laying she will go broody even if they are not fertilized. I have a hen that went broody this spring and I swapped her unfertilized eggs for some fertile chicken eggs. She is now the proud momma of 13 chicks!!
Sounds like a dog "playing" with so many killed and feathers plucked and bird missing. Could be a coyote but it will generally take one and go unless its a young one or two. Sorry for your loss.
Well I apologize then and do understand what little sisters are like as I have five of them!!! You are doing the right thing to find out before the law informs you!!! Brad
I am no expert but her body being cooler than the outside temp will regulate the temperature and keep it down to incubating temps. They been doing it for thousands of years and can adapt to cold or warm temps to get those eggs just right.
I would give it a try. They are cautious when nesting so she will not break them IMO. I set 14 chicken eggs under a broody turkey this year and she hatched them all. She protects them and does not know the are chickens!!! I have never done ducks or geese but do not see much of a difference.
I have had some lay in 7 weeks and some wait til 10 or 12 weeks. they will lay soon if roosters are crowing. The more you stress the longer it will be!!They should have plenty of light anywhere right now unless you have them in a basement!! One day you have none, soo you will be over run..

I think the lesson here should be not to do it because it is illegal and you are helping keep your sister out of trouble..not just to be mean to her.

I would agree. They cost more in feed and time than they are worth!! I just enjoy having them and listening to them crow and watching them. A fish tank would be cheaper.(but fish don't make sounds do they??)
Struttin1 I fully support your decision to do what you need to protect your property. I think it is silly for posters to say you should keep your turkeys out of the neighbors yard, yet you need to predator proof your yard against the neighbors dog? Kind of a double standard there. I would do...
I have 5 bronze turkeys to sell. About 8 weeks old. Would like to go to 1 person. Pickup only, will meet within 20 miles. Not sure of sex, I think 3 toms and 2 hens Brookston, Indiana. Will post picks later this evening.
I am surprised that no one else has chimed in on the feed post. Usually you ask and 20 people will give you 20 different answers. Funny thing is we all have our own feed recommendations ,we all feed different feed, and we all get eggs!! Feed them whatever is available and affordable for you. I...
The more you mess with turkey eggs incubating the worse of you are in my opinion. My first couple hatches in the past I candled all the time and they didn't do well. The next batch I left alone, never candled and let the turner do the work and had 22 out of 24 hatch. I think they are more...
Not sure where you live but most midwest states its a little early for eggs yet from turkeys. The poster from Louisiana is getting eggs because of the longer days and warmer temps they experience down there. Toms have nothing to do with egg laying just fertilization. Give it two to three weeks...
